Your Surprise Pick For Miami In Round 1?

Moving back and drafting O-line would NOT be a surprise. Imo a surprise would be a corner at 13 or a safety. Not saying we can't use a corner but at 13 it's shock me.

This is just my opinion but if the Dolphins truly do not care about 2019 then the pick that would make the most sense at 13 overall is Jeffery Simmons.

And that's just because he's most likely (by a long shot) to be the best player available on the board.

Ed Oliver isn't going to be there. Quinnen Williams won't be there. Josh Allen and Nick Bosa won't be there, of course. Kyler Murray will go #1 overall. Devin White will be long gone. Devin Bush might even be gone.

Who outside of those players (and probably not even all of them) do you pop on the tape for and say, oh yeah, this dude's a good bit better than Jeffery Simmons?

The key is whether you truly care about 2019 or not. IF YOU DO NOT CARE about 2019 then there's absolutely no reason to ding Jeffery Simmons for missing 2019. None. Maybe you're a little worried something freakish wrong could happen with the ACL but that's a different concern. If you don't give a rat's arse about 2019 winning then every single player you're evaluating for the 2019 is being evaluated for a 3-year contract. Every single one.

Some won't like the pick because of what happened when he was in high school coming out as a recruit. I get it. I won't sugar coat it either.

We did get 4 really good years from Jarvis, I do realize that's not the norm

Simmons may not be 100% at the beginning of 2020, may take him 6 to 8 games?

I am on board with drafting Simmons in a trade down situation. Big picture it's hard to start a rebuild with a question mark as your first selection. I get that your not planning to compete in 2019 but that doesn't mean he's just plug and play in 2020. It doesn't mean he's not. Personally I think it's irrelevant as the team is going to maximize the number of draft picks they can get for pick 13 (and likely more subsequent trade downs).

There are better landing spots for him starting with NYG at 17.

Baltimore, Oakland, Philly, Indy, Oakland again.....they can swing for the fences given their current constructions.

Keep an eye on the Eagles, with that extra 2nd rounder and very few needs on offense outside of depth, Howie Roseman likes to win the draft but the Sidney Jones selection hasn't panned out for them like they were hoping.

Giants and Raiders with multiple picks and multiple needs coupled with tempered expectations for 2019 mean they can gamble.

The extent to which Jeffery Simmons is a "question mark" is extremely overblown.

Most every player you're taking will have had a major injury or several major injuries when they were in college. This is no different.

My surprise would be Miami trading twice to go out of the first altogether.

I can see a situation where on draft day the commentators are saying “FINALLY the Dolphins make a pick” much later in the draft.

I want the dude on my team and if I think I am getting a Fletcher Cox cailiber player, i can certainly live with the redshirt on a throw away year. I just thinks the most critical move we can make this year is to acquire future picks first and fore most.

Simmons, along with Bosa, Williams and Oliver, were the 4 guys I wanted ahead of the next group of prospects.

Play the board.
