While there’s been word that the Dolphins see Fitzpatrick as a safety for the long term, there hasn’t been a definitive answer about this season. Head coach Brian Flores said recently that Fitzpatrick can play anywhere and the 2018 first-round pick sounded less interested in knowing exactly where than he did a few months ago.

“The type of defense we’re projected to run, you have to be versatile,” Fitzpatrick said, via the Miami Herald. “You got to move around. I don’t think anyone in the secondary will be sitting in one spot. You could be in one spot in one game and in the next week, be in a different spot. No matter who you are, you have to move around, you have to cover guys in the slot, cover guys outside. It adds value to myself, to play different spots on the field. It adds value to me. It may be extremely tough and hard and taxing, but it’s worth it in the end. It’s worth it because you make more plays.”

Good to see he's already buying in what the team wants to do. Get everyone to do their job whatever that job might be and they'll build something good.

While its good he is buying in, I hope they arent breaking this guy with all of this experimenting from one regime to the other.

The guy is a beast regardless. He played great as a rookie.

Minkah is the RARE guy that you put this type of load on his shoulders. Having a player of his athletic ability and football smarts is a dream and with the type of defense we will be installing it really is a match made in heaven.

Dolphins’ Minkah Fitzpatrick Feels Well-prepared For Second Nfl Season

“I look back on last year and just say it was a challenge,” Fitzpatrick said during an appearance on “The Audible with Kim Bokamper.” “We didn’t really know exactly what was going to happen when I got here, if I was going to play safety, corner, nickel or whatever it may be. And I played every single one of those, and it’s not really easy to do that. It was a challenge. It was tough. A lot of it wasn’t really planned out. Somebody may have gotten hurt and I had to just use my ability and the coaches and lean on them to dive into that.
“But I think it definitely prepared me -- it’s not going to get much harder than that. You’re never going to be asked to play a whole different position on a Saturday or a Friday. That’s not going to get much harder than that. A lot of things were thrown at me. It prepared me. I just feel like this year, I’m going to use everything that I learned last year and just apply it.”

Weird, I had people on here a few weeks ago telling me it was preposterous that I didn't buy that he would be strictly a free safety...

I can see him playing the Patrick Chung role for us. He's all over the field for New England so I envision Flores sees the same thing for Minkah. Some snaps at safety, some at corner, he can go in the box on obvious running downs. Really excited to see what Coach Flo does with him.

I'm not sure about this. I feel that a player should learn a role and excel at it. Then again, Flores is going to bring a lot of game to game versatility to every team we play. For now, I'll trust those in charge and hope for the best.

Defense will be multiple so it’s best some of its players are as well, hate situational only players.

Eh. I think they should just make Minkah the primary FS. Stop screwing around, let him settle into a position to be really good at.

There is some type of double standard... When Gase did it with him last year, fans were calling for his head. Now Flores is doing it as well but this time fans are on board.
