Miami Doing Due Diligence On Rosen -peter King

Klingler & Smith we’re drafted 7 years apart. No team has ever taken a QB in the first round in back to back drafts. The closest was Dallas- they took Aikman #1 & used their 1990 first round pick on Steve Walsh in the supplemental draft. A few teams have taken a QB in the first round a year after taking a QB in the 2nd round.

Incorrect.

Some team you might've heard of, took Rick Norton in the first round in 1966, and Bob Griese in the first round in 1967.

If you trade a 2nd or 1st, you are sending the message he is the starter

You will cloud all efforts this year to evaluate him.

Send no more than a 3rd and label him as "competition". Make him and Fitz battle it out. If Fitz wins and we are losing by week 8, then give it to Rosen and let him prove it.

Regardless, I'm still drafting a QB in Rd 1 next year.

Im not going on empty promises any more. Keep drafting a QB until you find one. Make them prove it on the field

Regardless, Rosen as a backup doesn't wreck your opportunity to get this right.

But Rosen as a starter wrecks your draft plans now.

Regardless of AZ's circumstances, I'm not rewarding them for getting a look at Rosen and giving them their 1st back.

There has to be a penalty for bumbling the pick and not knowing how to draft, develop a player or build around them.

If you give up on a 1st Round QB after one year, he obviously is not a starter and should not be compensated as such.

They pay the price for their mistake, not us.

in 1989 Dallas Cowboy took QB Troy Aikman no 1 overall. The 1989 NFL Supplemental Draft the Dallas Cowboys took QB Steve Walsh in the 1st round. Thus forfeiting their 1st pick in the 1990 NFL Draft. The Dallas Cowboy went 1-15 earning the no1 overall pick again but the pick had already been forfeited.

Strictly speaking, the Dallas Cowboys are the only team to spend consecutive no 1 overall picks on a QB.

The wage scale has been around for 8 years and it hasn’t happened in that time period either. Also, coaches & GMs are usually tied at the hip w/ a QB they took in the 1st round. The Cardinals’ situation is unique b/c the new coach is gone so soon after Rosen was drafted, so maybe they break the mold.

It is starting to change because of that...it is no longer financially unviable to carry two drafted QB’s...finding that QB is vital.

I promise you that it is going to happen more often...odds are Arizona is getting ready to go QB two years in a row.

There's no guarantee that the Dolphins will be able to get one of the Top tier QBs in next years draft(Tua). As a GM if Arizona is willing to let him go for a late 2nd max value and/or anything less then you have to consider it.

I don't know much about his QB skillset beyond a few plays here and there. But the consensus seems to be that he isn't worth it.

This is an excellent post whether you are a fan of Josh Rosen or not.

I mean I doubt they get a first whether they want it or not. There is no value for Rosen if they pick Murray tomorrow, they have to move him. They can say someone is offering second rounder but at that point I am not parting with any second rounder in the top half. Arizona botched this by letting their coach come in and starting dialogue about drafting Murray when the plan should be to improve around him.

Unlike Miami, I guess the new ARZ coach wasnt brought in to fix someone else's mistake at QB. Or so it seems. Won't know until they pick to be sure.

seems like if they had a genuine offer for a 2nd round pick, they would have already taken it
At this point I believe that if the Cardinals haven’t got an offer they like, they should wait until the first round is over and the one team that hasn’t gotten their first round QB will probably be willing to trade next year’s first rounder for Rosen.

Hey p, this is the best thing I have read in two weeks, Josh Rosen was highly thought of by local Celeb Coach Steve Logan. If we can get him for a third, why not give it a try, it would cost nothing.

The Ever Grateful VIPER
