Thought of this question as I was staring into the abyss last night but wanted to wait until the message board was more stable. Since it's often a matter for debate, I will clarify what I mean by franchise QB for this polls.

1) Someone who consistently finishes in the top 5-10 QBs each year for the majority of his career.
2) Someone who is at least in the discussion for the Pro Bowl for most years.
3) Someone who consistently helms a high powered offense.
4) Someone who, when they retire, is at least in the discussion by biased home town fans for Hall of Fame consideration.
Not necessarily a sure-fire Hall of Famer or even a borderline one, just someone who we wouldn't get laughed at for promoting. In short, a really good QB. Just putting this preamble out there to try and head off arguments for what a franchise QB even means, though that may be futile.

Never. Shula sold the franchise's soul to the devil to get Dan Marino. We'll never see another franchise quarterback again.

Next year's draft. We'll most likely be picking in the top three next year and we'll take a franchise QB.

Never. They just don’t have the guts to do it.

What makes any of next year’s QB’s so special? The only legit elite prospect I have seen since Luck is Lawrence.

My thought is that what if Tua or Fromm recognize that Miami is a complete dumpster fire and pulls an Elway or Eli Manning? Then what? We threw away a year of fandom and our players careers for nothing???

You haven’t seen enough of Lawrence to know that. So far you’ve seen a talented young kid play behind a line that gave him all day to stand in the pocket and sling it. Lots of guys can do that.

Tua showed he can do the same thing with little to no pressure in his face.

Those guys got a contact to play baseball from the Yankees?

You worry too much.

Nope.

What makes Lawrence so special? I happen to like Lawrence a bit better than Tua as well, but it's about the same measure that I prefer Tua over Fromm by, so there's that. But why are you saying Lawrence is legit elite and next year's QB aren't special? What exactly have you seen?

I think a quick perusal of his accomplishments and history will shed more light on why I feel Lawrence is a far better prospect than Tua. I understand that many here love Tua (I myself am not convinced he is everything he is advertised as), but comparing them side by side certainly puts Lawrence ahead when looked at objectively and collectively. It doesn’t hurt that many believe him to be a generational talent as well.

The point isn’t so much that I would not support or be content with Tua, but rather, if we are living in a hypothetical world where we can have either/or, I hands down take Lawrence. Unfortunately, unless Miami gets the number 1 pick next year or the following, I seriously doubt either will be in a Dolphins uniform at the end of their respective drafts.
