Pft - Miami Close To A Deal For Josh Rosen (merged)

Ya and if Rosen ends up being a bust you basically wasted a pick on him for nothing. I would rather them use their 1st round pick on a QB in 2020 where there should be better prospects than Rosen.

I think at the very least he'll be a decent backup.

Most of talking head "gurus" I see on the various sports channels/shows would disagree with some opining he'd still be worth a 1st. But be that as it may, small risk/potential high gain investment certainly worth the cost of a Dallas Thomas to find out.

Stop using Dallas Thomas or Billy Turner as examples since they were drafted in the past. You do realize there are good players that are drafted in the 3rd round as well? You act like if they trade a 3rd round pick for Rosen they are basically getting Rosen for free. This team needs all the draft picks they can get.

And what if they use that 3rd round pick that can be a starter? I would take a starter at any position over a backup QB.

I think Rosen could be a Dolphin tomorrow. The Cardinals have basically no leverage in this thing and the value is too great to pass up once the second round is finished and Arizona no longer has any hope of getting a top 64 pick for him.

Right now they are just hoping that Miami blinks or another team decides to wade into this market very aggressively. Seems unlikely to me.

And I would rather have one of the top QB's in next year's draft instead of Rosen. I don't see Rosen as a long term answer at QB. In fact he reminds me a little of Tannehill.

A 3rd round pick for Rosen doesn't mean he would be a savior, in fact if we did trade for him, I would fully expect to still draft a 1st round QB in 2020. We need QB competition.

Guys like Garrett Grayson get drafted in the 3rd round all the time to be a backup QB. Saints drafted him a few years ago in the 3rd with Brees still there. Spending a 3rd to get Rosen is a no brainer when we have NOTHING at QB right now, Rosen still has upside.

So based on that, why don't the Dolphins just draft their own QB in the 3rd round instead of trading it for Rosen?

And who is to say that Rosen is even better than Luke Falk?

This would be the scenario that would make me comfortable with a trade.

Third round pick can’t go wrong. If he can’t play he can’t play. And a third rounder isn’t the end of the world.

Rumor is that Belichick has his eye on Rosen also. Objectively speaking, that would be the best place for Josh to end up.. but hopefully we can prevent that from happening.

Who's to say that 1 year wonder Haskins with a loaded offense is better than Luke Falk?

I wasn't one who wanted to draft Haskins and glad they passed on him in the 1st round. This thread is about Josh Rosen last time I checked.

I just fail to see the downside in trading a pick for this kid.

1. It doesn't prohibit the team from pursuing a quarterback aggressively in 2020. If he crashes and burns, that's entirely OK.
2. You can immediately name him the starter and get a 16 game audition from him.
3. You are getting tremendous value in a first round quarterback prospect that you aren't spending a first round pick to acquire.

Quite frankly, it makes far too much sense for the Dolphins to handle things this way. So I assume that they will not handle things this way.

I saw people asking "But what about Ryan Fitzpatrick?" Uh, yeah. About that,

How hard is it to give them a 4th and a conditional pick next year and work on the terms to make it appear AZ might get something of value if Rosen reaches borderline unattainable playing time bench marks. They got their No.1 QB, least they can do is give us Rosen after one of their players ruined Ryan Tannehill’s career.

Part of the equation is that Arizona is trying to save face. They’ve been under the microscope for 3 months while everyone already knew what they were going to do.

At some point Keim and Kingsbury concocted a plan to have their cake and eat it too by drafting Murray and recouping a 1st for Rosen.

Kingsbury’s comments back in the fall killed any possibility of real value though. Any team with interest in Rosen wanted to get a steal or look to the draft, except for Miami who has the leverage of simply sticking to their plan and waiting for the right top prospect.

If we are going to bail out AZ, it will be on our terms.

You act like the Dolphins have plenty of picks they can burn. They started this draft with only 7 picks. That's not a lot to begin with. If they had three 3rd round picks then I could see them maybe trading one of them. But they only have one currently.
