Haskins

Pretty sure whether he fails or succeeds as a GM won't be based on Haskins and or Lock. It'll be based on whether he builds a good overall roster. Ozzie Newson never drafted an elite QB and he never got fired for his lack of QB success, he was judged based on team success.

Beg to differ... Flacco was considered a successful QB for most of his career.

Grier will be viewed on how he drafts.

The Great Nick Saban missed twice... which in my opinion is why he bailed out.

He took Ronnie Brown and passed on Aaron Rodgers... then chose Culpepper over Brees.

Hmm so having a QB that can get you the lead is a sound way to stop the run? Well how do you explain the the following run defense rankings?

2014: Packers=23rd
2014:Saints=29th
2014:Chiefs=28th
2014:Chargers=26th

2015: Chargers=27th
2015: Redskins=26th
2015:Saints=31st
2015: Packers=21st
2015:Colts=25th
Most of those teams had better records than the Dolphins, and didn’t we have Suh back then?

What does their record have to with anything? You said having a QB that can get you the lead is an alternative way to stopping the run. I presented you with a variety of good QB's that prove that theory wrong. If you want to move on to records than that's a whole different thing altogether.

No...wrong... but, when you don’t have one... you damn sure better scout and find one you want to gamble on.... one per year until you land one.

Grier job is to find talent... his highest priority is finding a championship QB... if he fails in that the rest doesn’t matter.

Yes... if he passed on Haskins, and he becomes a winning QB and he still hasn’t found a QB... he failed.

I can tell you haven't read or seen with you eyes or care about the concerns outside of the FB field regarding Haskins. The guy has the work ethic and discipline that's a lot to close to Jamarcus Russell for my liking. That's not the type of player you bring onto your team to be the franchise.

Once more you don't brining in a guy just because he' a QB. You have to also bring in the right kind of guy. IMO, That's not Haskins.

We don’t know for 3 or 4 years how good this quarterback class is.

Nearly every QB is a gamble... the point is it is Grier’s job to scout and find a QB to gamble on... not play it safe.

If he evaluated Haskins and or Lock...passed on them and they blow up...he failed as a GM.

Even more so if he still hasn’t found our QB if the above happens.

The draft is a gamble...nobody was sure of Drew Brees ( hence he lasted until the 2nd round)...nobody was sure of Rodgers (hence he lasted until pick 21).

Not taking risks on QB’s is why the Miami Dolphins have Been quarterbackless for nearly 20 years. This team passed on Brady 6 times, Brees, Rodgers, Matt Ryan... because this team was afraid to roll the dice on QB prospects.

Grier can take the position he doesn’t like these QB’s....but if he’s wrong and Haskins blows up...he failed and will be judged for it.

Exactly! I'm not saying Haskins is going to be a Pro Bowler, I'm just saying that you will never draft a franchise QB unless you draft a frickin QB. I'm tired of playing safe and drafting guys in the tranches......especially since we seem to miss on those guys quite often. And I know we need DL and OL in the worst way.

If we draft a QB on day 2 or pick up Rosen, I'll be ecstatic. I just want us to take that risk and try to improve the position.

Winning is kinda what I want my team to do...Not sure what your point is any more... my basic point is that we need a better QB.

For sure... I absolutely love Christian Wilkens...But if Haskins blows up.... or Lock....we screwed up!
That will be interesting to see in the future. If Haskins becomes the next Rothlisberger we will be looking back and always wonder "what if". But that is the problem with the draft. You never know for sure until years later. Heck we could trade for Rosen and he becomes a franchise QB and Wilkins a stud for years and Haskins bombs and suddenly our FO looks like geniuses.

Redskins have the best QB in the NFCE and that means a lot. That is significant.

I really like Wilkins, but ignoring the QB position with all but the number one prospect off the board is a big gamble for this team. In many ways, the Wilkins pick seems safe and even laudable, and sets the tone for what the new FO is looking for out of their prospects. These are very positive things, but if they do not get their QB this year, they are taking a huge gamble that next year or the following year their QB is going to be on the board, healthy, and within their reach. What if the QB they have targeted doesn’t declare, gets seriously injured or shows significant decline this season? What if several other teams are in the market with better draft capital and leapfrog Miami?

Fans seem to think that because the “class” is going to be better overall, that Miami is going get exactly who they want without any issue, and since the “class” is supposedly better, that a QB picked next year is a can’t miss. There is no evidence to support any of those positions. In fact, the other teams passing this year may well indicate there will be significant competition trying to land a QB next year.

I don’t believe that Miami should pick a guy they don’t believe in or shouldn’t pick BPA, but in the last two years, they have passed on first round QB talent in favor of a safety and a DT and are being led by Ryan Fitzpatrick. Wilkins is indeed a huge gamble.

How are they ignoring the QB position?

There are several teams that may be in the market next year: Oakland, Denver, Miami, Pittsburgh, Cincinnati, New England, Tampa, and Baltimore are just a few that spring to mind from the AFC alone. Some of these teams will be looking for a replacement for aging starters, and some are currently using journeyman, while Baltimore is experimenting with a project that I believe will bust next season. Still, just because someone drafted a QB this draft doesn’t preclude them picking a new QB in the first round next season, as AZ proved last night.

I cannot understand the smugness fans have that the QB of their dreams is just going to fall into their laps next draft.

There are still six more rounds of this year’s draft to get through. Wait until it’s over and then get back and talk about what team needs a quarterback next year.

Remember that time we passed on Drew Brees, and Aaron Rodgers and Matt Ryan? Gotta draft em when they fall into your lap. And keep doing it until you get one...DT’s don’t win Super Bowls...
haskins is no Brees, Rodgers or Ryan.

THANK YOU DOLPHINS for not drafting haskins or murray who will both BUST royally.

I can continue to (grudgingly) support this franchise now.
