Some Thoughts On Rosen

Rosen has pocket awareness. He led his team in last two minutes to get one of the 4 wins. RT did not do that in Rookie year. I wanted Lock but Broncos put an end to that. There are no OTs left. Go CB and tighten up DB’s.

Technically Tannehill did lead some kind of comeback against the Seahawks that year, though it was somewhat of a gift as he threw a game ending INT that was overturned by a roughing the passer penalty after he let go of the ball.

I’m sincerely interested how you come to that conclusion? Were you at one time on the same team with him, do you know him personally? I’m really interested because it seems you have a very strong opinion on this.
Nope, just heard a lot of reports, and they're all saying the same things.

Welcome to Miami dude, it's a one year audition in all reality. He's gonna need help though with no oline at the moment :)

Rosen has like ESP or something (his instagram from 2015) - he'll need it behind the Dolphins O-Line.

"Congrats on starting man, you're gonna to kill it"

A QB is a leader of men. Josh Rosen has a significant track record of being poor at that, and no track record of succeeding at it. If we bring him in, it goes against everything Grier and Flores have said … and we will certainly miss out on the QB's in 2020. This looks like just another patch job, but one that is worse than the previous ones. All the talk from Grier & Flores about wanting people who lived and breathed football … is proven wrong. All the talk about wanting to rebuild a culture of commitment and sacrifice … is undone. All the talk about wanting people who are willing to put the team above themselves is proven to be just that … talk.

It's going to be hard to rebuild a team if they can't believe a word their coaching staff is saying. If Flores is to succeed, I sincerely hope we do not add Josh Rosen … his track record is the opposite of everything that Grier and Flores have been saying they want to build. And young players aren't going to get on that bandwagon if they have different rules entirely for the QB.

You make it clear that you are very negative about Rosen.

Then you support your reasoning with some non-specific information about his leadership qualities that have been countered in the media by opposite views. My questions are:

1) Where can we get a competent and unbiased bio of this guy to see what he is really like?
2) The new coaches are not amateurs or inexperienced with draftees or free agents. Shouldn't we be giving them a little recognition that they certainly have more and better information about this guy then we do and that it was used in evaluating his potential value to the team?

Your abject negativity towards this player must be based on something other then casual observations. I like most of your posts and I would like to know why this pick upsets you this much, and I don't mean general descriptions of faults which I find too shallow for use, but something that is a significantly more solid basis for his rejection.

Man . . .Chris Grier made me a believer tonight. AZ wanted 48, he drops down 14 picks and throws them a sweetener 5th just to get it over with. Also loses a 4th . . . But picked up a 2nd and a 6.

I mean great value all around fom the FO.

On the record of not being a big fan of Rosen, but welcome to Miami Josh, hope you kick ass!

You can think it's just me if you like, but around the NFL there was a strong consensus. Here's one of many articles that gives you their perspectives. I'll even quote one of the opinions before the draft:

"One team reportedly compared to Rosen a combination of former quarterback Jeff George and Jay Cutler, the polarizing quarterback most recently with the Miami Dolphins, saying he doesn't think Rosen could lead a team."

Here is the link for that one:

Charley Casserly, old GM of the Super Bowl Washington Redskins back in the day had to say about Rosen at Arizona:

"Doesn't work hard enough. Doesn't study enough. Doesn't connect with teammates. Goes off the game plan."

Not everyone agrees with that, so here's an article saying that Casserly is wrong and his teammates love him, but it also contains the Casserly quote:

https://cardswire.usatoday.com/2019/03/12/josh-rosen-attacked-by-charley-casserly-defended-by-many/

The message is clear … NFL types keep saying Rosen doesn't work out … and Arizona moved on from him after only 1 year. But, none of the players wants to be the guy whose name is officially attached to throwing their QB under the bus, so it's all rose petals and potpourri when you ask his teammates on the record. Still … it is at the least …. uncommon.

I can think of one QB who was traded after his rookie season that was good … and at the time, I couldn't believe he was being traded because he flashed as a good player as a rookie. His name was Brett Favre. If Rosen works out, he'll be only the 2nd QB who succeeded in that situation that I know. Here's hoping he is a success …. but no, I do not have much faith that it will work out well.

Except that Dan in his first year, throw 20 TDs 6 ints 96 QB rating and was 7-2. While Rosen, threw 11 TDs and 14 Ints with a 66 QB rating. Lead his team to the first overall pick and got fired. Little bit of a difference.

And consider that Peyton Manning had TWENTY-EIGHT interceptions his rookie season...you know, the guy who owns most of Dan's records.

Funny though, Johnson's stats were exactly the same regardless of who was playing QB.

I don't ever care what Tannehill's rating was, he was a QB prospect who had never performed at a level in college and lacked a natural feel for playing the position. His greatest skill was having a rating and accumulating stats that suggested he was far better than he actually was while he struggled to win games at a consistent rate and never had a successful season because he wasn't a natural QB. Even in that terrible offense I saw Rosen make throws that it took Tannehill 5-6 to learn how to make, and even when Tannehill finally learned how to make them, his feel for the game was so bad he was unable to utilize his throwing ability for extended stretches.

66 passer rating .!

...he will have a very large chip on his shoulder to prove AZ and everyone else wrong. The kid has the talent, and I am much happier if this deal goes down taking him now, then I was last year!

-
And the fact that other teams - except the Dolphins - did not want him should also be a motivating factor for him.

It's a legitimate concern, but at the same time how much evidence is there of this? How media driven is this narrative? The only people I really see say this are TV analysts and writers with their "sources." Is he so toxic that his teammates at UCLA and Arizona dislike him? Is there a lot of evidence of that?

I still wouldn't trade a 2nd rounder, but I'm starting to really wonder how credible this is.

I mentioned elsewhere... just hear Larry Fitzgerald praise Josh as a teammate , professional and how handled the Kyler drama... it was obvious how close they became... doesn’t sound toxic to me!
