Starting Qb 2019

A valid point, if this team weren't in a full blown rebuild, but we have too many holes to have that type of luxury, IMO.

That might be a "worst case" scenario, but probably not what the primary goal would be.

I disagree that they are in full blown rebuild. I think the team is going to be a lot better than people think this year. I am excited to see what the defense is going to do under Flores. Baker Fitzpatrick McMillan and Howard are going to shine.

I'd go with a plan to start with Fitz with the intention of moving to Rosen at some point, and make it clear. Last year could have done some damage to Rosen and if we're serious about assessing him as a QB of the future he needs to be fully supported and ready, and not feeling any pressure. Better to judge him over 10 games in which he is comfortable than 16 in which he started skittish and nervous, which he was by the end of last year, and have that potentially snowball downhill.

If Rosen is clearly ready by the end of pre-season then start with him, but I wouldn't heap the pressure on by insisting now that he's starting straight away.

Lol. It’s not close. Fitzpatrick is the clear starter. Rosen might start at the end of the year if they are out of the playoffs.
Then why the hell would we burn a valuable pick on Rosen? We have to know now if he has potential to be the future so that we can decide our draft strategy for next year. Unless the team is doing a two season tank for Trevor Lawrence.

Despite that Harvard pedigree Fitzpatrick isn't always the smartest on the football field. And he hasn't made a habit of blowing people away on the practice field either.

I'm sure everyone will pay lip service to the competition and odds are Fitz will be the starter at day one in training camp. But everyone knows they have to see what they've got in Rosen and he'll be starting barring some catastrophic meltdown or horrendous outings in preseason.

Better damn well be rosen.

Period.

Question is can we protect this kid to even make a proper evaluation.

I think it’s 50/50 whether this dude sinks or swims but miamis done him no favors in terms of setting him up for success.

Zach sterup has a golden opportunity right now to win a starting right tackle gig. If not a swing 3rd tackle job. There’s zero competition

This team is complete garbage. 6 wins is the absolute ceiling of this team with 2-4 wins being the more realistic scenario. We have nobody who can sack the QB from the edge. We have 1 mediocre LB and two awful ones. The secondary is good except we are lacking a second boundary corner and a true SS. On offense, the entire right side of the OL is currently vacant or a known turnstile. At WR we have a bunch of slot guys and a player made of glass who has no motor. At TE we have a guy who can make circus catches at practice but can’t block and disappears in games because he can’t break coverage. This is a full teardown and rebuild, and for good reason. This roster is bottom 5 in the league.

Barring injury, there's no reason for Fitzpatrick to play a single snap. Even with injury to Rosen, I'd rather see Falk.

Fitzpatrick is better served on a contending team who needs to stay afloat if their starter misses a game or 2.

2019 is clearly a giveaway for the Fins, the window clearly opens in 2020 with all those picks and cap space. So with that in mind, 2019 NEEDS to be all about finding direction and evaluating the pieces that are currently on the roster in order to make the clearest decisions possible in the 2020 offseason. There's absolutely no logical reason to sit a healthy Rosen this season, he's the only one you have any hope to have long term value at the QB position.

No point in argueing semantics about the term "rebuild". Call it what you want, but we made a conscious decision to unload burdensome contracts of overpaid players, while not spending big $ on free agents. It reset our salary cap situation, and stockpiled draft picks, at the cost of being a playoff contender in 2019.

You are correct, IMO, about the defense being closer to "good", or even "very good", than most ppl think.

We have several young players, with potential, and a far better defensive coaching staff than that s**t show Burke was selling.

I know I’m glad to have qb upside in tbe building for 2019.

Real qb upside. Otherwise it was gonna be a real long brutal next 12 months.

Yup! I mean I dont really like Rosen, but there's still a possibility the light turns on and you get 15+ years of a good QB, no matter how slim. That was non-existent with Fitzpatrick...

Fitz until you feel Rosen has picked up the offense. Maybe week six unless we are undefeated or 5-2. If we start off 0-2 then Rosen

How can you possibly say reshad jones a perennial pro bowler at strong safety is not a ss?? I really hope this was just a drunken post. Even tj mcdonald is a pretty serviceable ss. Some of the whiners on this board really need to lurk more and post less. Does VIP have this same problem? I think its time.

There are NO SHORT CUTS.

The coaches should run their installs & camps, & let the best player start.

It is THAT simple.

I'm an optimist, so I hope Rosen wins but this is a brutally physical game

It is all about the competition.

We don't want to relive the exact same mistake they made with the last kid they drafted high to play QB
