Barnwell: Why You Can Throw Out Rosen's 2018

Acquiring Rosen doesn't lock the Dolphins into him as the focal point of their rebuild, either. If he plays well, great. Miami found its QB for a late second-round pick and a fifth-rounder. If not, the Dolphins will have one of the top picks in the 2020 draft and can use that on a replacement while installing Rosen as their backup. This is a low-risk move that offers the possibility of an extremely high reward. It's a great bet by the Dolphins.

Key point here.

Except there’s a third alternative: Tannehill 2.0. Shows just enough to bait people into thinking there’s more there, if you just add another blocker on the OL or a big target receiver. Wins too many games to have a great pick, but too few for the franchise to be a contender, etc.

Didn’t read yet, but it only took about 10 throws for the world to see Dan Marino was for real.

Dan Marino is considered one of, if not the best, pure passers of all time. We are talking 60 years of history.

No one with half a brain will take your comment seriously. If your constantly looking for talent like that you will only leave yourself sorely disappointed.

I think one of Rosen's first throws was big time deep ball to Christian Kirk. Dan Marino also had a hall of fame coach that had gotten the most of some mediocrity at QB.
He also had a lot of talent around him.

I get it. I just don’t understand why there aren’t more guys that are so obviously talented / can’t miss. I guess Peyton was considered that. But by no means am I comparing Rosen to Marino.

That is absolutely the option 3. We're going to be in a challenging spot between him, Fitzpatrick, and the QB class of 2020 staring us in the face.

Oh well, if Rosen ends up being a stud it would make things pretty peachy.

Good article as always from Barnwell, but your point is also my biggest fear and knowing our luck as a franchise our most likely reality.

Also, it works both ways, too. Dak Prescott was thought to be a superstar after his rookie season, but things look much different now. Even in this day-and-age of instant everything, you have to give a QB an absolute minimum of two full years before reaching a conclusion. Same with college prospects. One and even two-year starters have a record of fooling NFL scouts.

Never saw Dak as having a true NFL arm.

Are you old enough to remember that Marino was drafted onto a conference champion, Super Bowl losing team?

Arizona was the leagues worst team... apples and oranges.

Arizona had a worse Oline than us lol. I watched a lot of film on Rosen and he made some great throws. I lot of people forget how young he is too. Now, he isn’t going to be a Marino but I think that with time he is a excellent value.

I don't think such a thing exists in the NFL, especially at a position so dependent on everyone else around them. There are plenty in the "obviously talented" category. Palmer, Alex Smith, Stafford, Bradford all looked the part, won at a high level in college, and for a good portion of their pro careers looked like they didn't deserve to be in the league. Then you have those borderline prospects like Montana and Brady who find the perfect situation and become all time greats.

Rosen looks the part. Maybe not quite Aaron Rodgers level but physically everything is there for him to perform at a high level.

Sorry Vaark, just another fallen soldier to add to the list. There is nothing he showed his rookie season that even sniffs elite. Worst thing is we will pass on qb next draft.
