This Is A Great Day In Dolphin History!!!

But Keim and the Cards put Rosen in that position. To hire a failed, fired losing college coach with no NFL experience who was lucky to be demoted to USC OC and then place myopic faith in him that his failed system that didn't work among lesser college competition would work in the NFL with a talented but slight QB is an indictment on them, not Rosen considering what they gave him to work with from a player and coaching standpoint.
True. But we might consider that the cause and effect ran the other way as well. Those people invested in Rosen, knowing there were many NFL personnel people who wouldn't touch him because of the belief that his teammates did not support Rosen, questioned his commitment to football, bad personality, and selfish nature. NFL people compared him to Jeff George and Jay Cutler.

Then the Cardinals drafted Rosen, played Rosen, and he had a tremendously bad rookie season. That's not the end of the world, lots of good QB's have had bad rookie seasons, including Peyton Manning. But for whatever reason (ticket sales? lack of production? locker room unrest?) the Cardinals fired their coach and chose the least-successful new coach hired this offseason who they knew came in with a system and requirement to get a new QB in the mold of Kyler Murray. To me, it seems that the decision was made to move on from Rosen with that coaching hire, before, not after Kingsbury.

It is possible that it wasn't the desire to get Kingsbury that determined their decision to move on from Rosen, but rather their decision to move on from Rosen that determined hiring Kingsbury. Which it was, we may never know. But it is worth considering. GM's usually don't survive long if they have to admit they were wrong about their coaching selection and their QB selection. So I doubt the decision was made lightly.

I don't know, the scouts say Deiter has terrible footwork which will be exploited at the NFL level so I'm not as excited as everyone else is. Maybe I'm still feeling the sting of the Asiata pick but it's all a waiting game with Rosen and Deiter to see how they pan out over time........Rosen certainly wasn't Dan Marino as a Rookie and couldn't put his team on his back and take them anywhere so the jury is still out as far as I am concerned.....

I couldn't agree more with post. GREAT day for Dolphins. Love all the moves. Great job Chris.

He now has the coaches here to make him what he should or could be. Huge upgrade here over Arizona.
The one thing that truly gives me hope about him is that he's very smart and those same negative reports also said that he gets bored easily and needs to be mentally challenged. The Patriots system was designed to build around Tom Brady, who is very sharp. It leverages his mind. So, the challenge is there, and very real, for Rosen to get the most control and most mental challenge he can find in the NFL. If Rosen is motivated by that mental challenge, this is the best spot for him in the NFL. His motivation should be exceptionally high.

But like RG3 at Cleveland under Hugh Jackson … if Rosen fails here, there may be nowhere else to go for him as a starting QB. Talent alone is not enough. It requires the right mindset and attitude.

Deiter is one of the highest rated pure guards out there. He's a power pig moreso than a fluid athlete. He's a mauler type who excels in the run game. Yes, he is a tad more stiff than some of the natural athletes, and he lunges at times, but those are reasons why he didn't go in the 1st round. If he didn't have those flaws, he would have been a 1st rounder, because he's so very good at the other things. I'm ecstatic to add Michael Deiter. Fitzmagic and Rosen will be able to run a balanced offense that can actually open run lanes as well as get solid pass protection. And Deiter holds the record at Offensive Lineman U (Wisconsin) for most OL starts, so he's more dependable than our typical hospital-crew OL.

At the end of the day we're running the Patriots' offense, which makes its bread and butter out of running against stacked pass defenses and passing when the defense isn't stacked against the pass. Deiter can do both well. He doesn't have the upside of the typical Miami OL pick, but he fits squarely into the philosophy of a typical New England OL pick. In the past, our guys have the most All-Pro potential, but lower production, and if they're good they become prohibitively expensive to re-sign. The Patriots picks are solid and productive from day 1, never have that elite ceiling, and tend to be re-signed at reasonable prices. I'm 100% on-board with following the New England philosophy to build out an OL, and with their philosophy of getting guys who can establish a run game against passing defenses.

In the past, Miami could not do that even when the defense was stacked against the pass, we were lucky if we could run. Gase did well running against bad run defense teams … but those were few and far between. With guys like Deiter, we will be able to run the ball unless they commit to stopping the run. I think it will make our offense much more productive, keep the OL together longer, and keep our OL healthier. I think this approach to the OL is going to work …. finally.

He's not Tannehill!!
Tbh I'm more sold on the way we've gone about this off-season. We seem to have a clear plan and have stuck to it, No silly contracts handed out (could easily be paying 35mill + on Tannehill and James alone next season), no panicking halfway through free agency and signing a load of average players, we've worked at making sure we're in a strong position next off season...we needed major changes and that's what we've done.
Even liked the draft, was hoping for someone on the Dline first up, made sure we got another 2nd rounder before getting Rosen...
The fact we look like we know what we're doing and have a long term plan means I can fully accept a poor/mediocre 2019 season

I agree, it's been a great offseason.

Can't say I'm sold. But I'd rather see if he can be what many thought he could be. The risk is not as bad as you think. If he's terrible, you got no less than three studs in next year's draft. If he balls out..you got options. I just think it's a great day for the team. I've been wrong before though...
If only there were two possible outcomes

Good points.

I am glad to have Rosen, just to see what he can do and if he can grow. If he doesn't we aren't any worse off then we were without him; the same would be true with anyone we picked in the second round of this draft.

My biggest concern is how long will it take the staff to get everything running smoothly. Experienced or not, it is a totally new organization this year and I anticipate that adds to the time required for the team to solidify.

This should be an entertaining year.

Who is starting? It would be a waste of a year to have Fitz win out in camp.

Wow I love Marino as much as the next guy. But let’s be real here Marino came to a team that was in the super bowl the year before with a HOF coach. Rosen came to a mediocre team with a rookie HC that got fired.

Well, admittedly it's hard to trust this organization. Miami has missed on so many quarterbacks through the years with the likes of Rogers, Brees, Wilson, Ryan. Heck, all those guys are top 10 caliber.

I wasn't too happy that the team passed on Haskins, but the addition of Rosen makes me feel better. I'd probably rank Rosen third if he were in this quarterback class, behind Murray and Haskins. I would say Wilkins/Rosen combo is better than Haskins/Ferguson or something along those lines.

Rosen could fit nicely here, but it won't initially be easy with the talent on offense in Miami.

Rosen would have been 2 in this class, Haskins was a one year starter with a loaded team around him.

People talk of Haskins 50 touchdown passes, but a closer look reveals a lot of screens turned into touchdowns by the talent around him.

Not saying he isn’t a good prospect, but Rosen comes in more polished and pro ready.

And his entire O-line got injured, yet his stats were comparable to Darnold and Allen, who didn’t have the same issues.

Could be. Miami must have had Rosen ranked higher, or I think they would have drafted Haskins.
