"rosen Will Have To Earn The Starting Position"

Start Fitzmagic and let Rosen become comfortable with the players and system while the oline is rebuilt.
I think this team can win while we develop.
Rosen will likely challenge Fitzpatrick in 2020. The team will gauge him in preseason, practice and mop up duty in 2019.

In my opinion, this can never happen.

We stockpiled an a$$load of picks in 2020 for the express purpose of ensuring us a shot at Tua, Herbert, Fromm, or any other elite QB prospect.

We absolutely have to know what we have in Josh Rosen by the last game of the 2019 season.

The team wants to win. Regardless of Fitz or Rosen, the team will still draft a QB in 2020.
Rosen will be with the team until his contract expires.
My .02

On the surface this is a message from Flores to his team by way of the national media. Everyone needs to earn their spot on day 1.

Under the surface by not guaranteeing Rosen the spot it gives Flores a chance to see if Rosen is ready or needs a little reprogramming from his time in AZ AND to see if his team is ready enough for Rosen to not get himself killed out there.

I think ultimately Rosen starts week 1, but if he doesn’t it won’t be the worst thing in the world. If we get to week 6 and he is still sitting then we have a problem.

Bingo.

We either got are kid, or we're going to get out kid.

Well, Rosen would have a problem.

We just get our man in the 2020 draft and chalk it up to taking a good shot for little compensation or money.

They have to play him to see what they got in him. They have no time to wait around because they will probably draft a QB in the 1st round in 2020 if Rosen doesn't show promise.

I agree @LANGER72 I would start Fitzmagic. Let's look at their performances last year … clearly Rosen has a lot of room for improvement, so why thrust him into a role until he's mastered the system?

We know that Fitzmagic runs hot and cold, so I expect the coaching staff to start the best player, and that's likely to be Fitzmagic. But, he's going to start to implode, as he always has in the past. At that point, Rosen should be ready to take the helm, with lowered expectations and support from both the team and fans. That's the perfect environment for Rosen to come in … with lowered expectations and full familiarity with the scheme, and with his teammates having full familiarity with the scheme so they make less mistakes.

I don't see the benefit of throwing Rosen to the wolves before he or any of his teammates have learned our complex offensive scheme. I don't see the benefit of setting him up to fail yet again. I don't see the benefit of putting him in when the expectations are highest and likelihood of success and criticism are highest.

Let Fitzmagic bear the brunt of all that. We know he runs hot and cold, so Rosen will get plenty of chances to run this team. Let's set Rosen up for success, or at least lower the expectations so he can develop. Start Fitzmagic, then bring Rosen in after the team has acclimatized to our new offense.

I just dont see rosen losing to fitz in preseason, rosen should win the job no problem and i really think fitz is cut by the end of preseason

You could be right. But based on their seasons last year … it's not even remotely close. Fitz was 10x the QB Rosen was, so for you to be right … a seismic shift has to happen.

posted similiar elsewhere but seems to fit better here...

Rumor has it this O is very demanding on the QB -- from a mental and functional perspective. That's all the more reason to take your time (because *shocker* we're NOT winning the SB in 2019). Beyond that it would be totally FOOLISH to expose Rosen until they are highly confident in his fundamental soundness executing the O by consistently demonstrating efficiency/effectiveness practice after practice. Testing the new product too early will only accomplish a set back IMO
and potentially damage the merchandise.

Last, regardless of what Rosen shows or doesn't show in live action next season, that will not preclude our taking another QB in 2020. And if somehow Rosen masters the O quickly and demonstrates some serious results in the season (and I'm thinking a back-end sample of 6 games should be sufficient for that determination along with excellent, consistent practice results) we will have "significant options" for our expected high draft position.

Tampa also had an elite receiver core and a middle of the road ol, az had an old Fitzgerald and a running back coming off a major injury and an 32nd ranked awful or hurt oline.

Say whatever the hell you want to the public.

You give this kid the majority of the starting reps and you give him sixteen games. Ryan Fitzpatrick is a career journeyman who is in his twilight as a pro football player. There is absolutely no ****ing point to starting him whatsoever, unless you think Rosen is going to be so bad that the team will go 0-16 and you want to avoid that stigma. And I don't think they think he's that bad based on the fact that they traded a second round pick for him.

If you don't start Josh Rosen for 16 games (assuming healthy), then this coaching staff ought to be pilloried.
