In Hindsight, Would You Have Preferred That Miami Also Trade Down In The First Round?

Should Miami have also traded down in the first?

Hard to say as would depend on the return, for me Christian Wilkins was the last option there that I would not want to risk losing by trading down and trying to pick up later. If he had gone and say Daniel Jones or TJ Hockenson were still there then yes I would be looking to trade down, as it was Wilkins is too good to pass up.

I heard, perhaps on the Locked On Dolphins podcast, that one goal for Grier coming into the draft was to acquire an extra 2020 1st or 2nd round draft pick.

If trading down in the 1st did net at least another 1st rounder I suspect they would have made the deal.

All fully depends on what would have been offered but glad we got Wilkins so have to say no.

Absolutely. I even like Wilkens and think he'll be a fine player, but Miami should have moved down and accumulated picks and started building the offense especially if they had intentions of trading for Rosen.

I love the Christian Wilkins pick way too much.

It's funny, if this question had been asked before us picking, and us seeing how the draft was going, i might said trading down, but after still seeing a premier DT, and huge defensive leader like Wilkins still there, I can not even think about trading down.

That pick alone put us at a point where if we can find just one consistent pass- rusher, this defense might be much better this year, then anyone thinks, and better, then any product we have had out there for a while now.

With the benefit of hindsight? No. I wanted the team to trade down into the 20s and get Dexter Lawrence...but he went earlier than I thought.

Yes.

Ideally, I think you could face traded down a few more spots and still have gotten Wilkins. Plenty of OL I like as consolation as well

Realistically, we don’t know who was willing to trade up. Maybe the teams willing were too deep in the first round and your shot at Wilkins would likely be gone.

That said, I’m okay w/ the pick. I think you could have got him fur better value though

Yes.

With the knowledge that we were targeting Rosen, we should have traded down and taken Oline.

I like wilkins, but they accelerated the need for an oline rebuild by taking a QB this year rather than wait till next year.

If it was the type of offer that you can't refuse, then sure.

In reality, though, I'll take the bird in hand with no complaints.

I read that too, but it struck me as pure speculation. Are there any sources where Grier actually said that?

No. He was the player that Miami needed, and the way the Saints trade ended up, we snagged an extra 2nd rounder anyways.

Yes and no...really depends what the offer was from Philly or other teams.

We picked the right guy for staying where we were at.

Also if we moved back the other guys I would’ve targeted would be Bradbury and Simmons and both were gone by 19, before Phillys pick.
