I believe Rosen is better than Fitz in THIS system and that’s why he’ll win the job.
Yup. Coaches don’t evaluate the players in practice. Players don’t improve in practice. Typical fan POV you have there.
Practice doesn't compare to games. It's not even close. The only way to truly evaluate Rosen is to start him in games against other competition.
The only way you can evaluate Rosen is games because you don’t watch him in practice.
Both these QB's are new to the Dolphins, their teammates and the entire team is dealing with a new coaching staff.
Under these conditions, the QB who does the best in camp should be who we start with.
If we were going with a continuing coaching staff, then I would anticipate that if both these QB's did well in camp, they would start with the most experienced and considering that he is near the end of his career, try to stay with him as long as possible. This would make him kind of a "shock absorber" in protecting the younger QB from as much physical injury as possible so that he has a better opportunity to finish the season with minimal physical damage.
It isn’t fair to the other players on the team to play a clearly inferior quarterback. thats the reason players would quit on a team/ player.
Rosen sitting for a year isn’t going to stunt his development and is going to improve with practice. Watching a professional like Fitzpatrick week in and week out would be good for him.
Rosen is under contract for three more years, there is absolutely no rush with him.
I hear what everyone is saying here. But I'm still in firm agreement with the OP. I do think Rosen will look better than Fitz in tc and pre season and therefore the logical thing is to put him in there on day one but as I said in my previous post, do that and there is a very real danger of ruining him before we can truly assess him.
This year is all about assessment for Rosen, is he good enough to be our face of the franchise ? You have to take into account the mental side of thingshere and set him up for success unlike what happened to him in Arizona. Mentally he must be pretty shot right now, he's come back from a season where he was abused physically week in week out, a losing season where very little went right for the team he was on, he's then had an off season where the main topic of conversation has been whether he will be replaced after his rookie year, he then gets booted out of town to a team that has put up the signs that it's not competing in the near future for a low 2nd rounder with no one else bidding on his services or believing in him.
To expect him to get over all that immediately during a period where the coaching staff are trying to install a new system and there own philosophies while the line has been gutted, is young, lacking in talent and unproven is optimistic in the extreme. Those first few games whoever is under Center are going to be rough, very rough, they coincide with a tough period in our schedule too. I would spare him from that and let him learn a little on the sidelines. The kid is only 22, we have to factor that in to all this too. I don't think missing those first 3 or 4 games will impact our ability greatly to evaluate his abilities, and I'm not sure what we will learn other than can he take a beating.
Rosen has 16 games to show he belongs.
Wow! Now that's a pretty definitive, absolute, deterministic "opinion."
Perhaps it's just me -- but I don't believe anyone here can make such decisions
unless you're coach Flo in disguise?
