My Guess, We Get Fitzmagic For 4 Weeks.

We’re talking about a veteran journeyman QB vs a top 5 prospect who only fell to 10 because of “character concerns.” I suspect Flores will play the game of making him back up during training camp. He’ll have to work for it, but I think he’ll earn because he has more talent than Fitzpatrick.

Rosen will be the starter by week 3 of the preseason imo.

I believe Rosen is better than Fitz in THIS system and that’s why he’ll win the job.

Based on what? Fitzpatrick has had an Any/a of 6.46 the last 5 years on 3 different teams/systems. Rosen’s Any/a was 3.53 last year. There is absolutely no evidence that Rosen is better under this system.

Rosen will improve, but he isn’t going to be better than Fitzpatrick this year and probably not next year either.

Yup. Coaches don’t evaluate the players in practice. Players don’t improve in practice. Typical fan POV you have there.

Practice doesn't compare to games. It's not even close. The only way to truly evaluate Rosen is to start him in games against other competition.

The only way you can evaluate Rosen is games because you don’t watch him in practice.

So what? What if he is one of those players that looks good in practice but sucks in games? How you perform in games is what counts, not in practice. You must be related to Ryan Fitzpatrick since you want him to start so bad.

Both these QB's are new to the Dolphins, their teammates and the entire team is dealing with a new coaching staff.

Under these conditions, the QB who does the best in camp should be who we start with.

If we were going with a continuing coaching staff, then I would anticipate that if both these QB's did well in camp, they would start with the most experienced and considering that he is near the end of his career, try to stay with him as long as possible. This would make him kind of a "shock absorber" in protecting the younger QB from as much physical injury as possible so that he has a better opportunity to finish the season with minimal physical damage.

That also minimizes the fact of whether we know what we have in Rosen. Loaded QB draft, with a whole lot of ammo in 2020. You find out what you have in Rosen, you dont sit on him to make sure hes most comfortable.

I hear what everyone is saying here. But I'm still in firm agreement with the OP. I do think Rosen will look better than Fitz in tc and pre season and therefore the logical thing is to put him in there on day one but as I said in my previous post, do that and there is a very real danger of ruining him before we can truly assess him.

This year is all about assessment for Rosen, is he good enough to be our face of the franchise ? You have to take into account the mental side of thingshere and set him up for success unlike what happened to him in Arizona. Mentally he must be pretty shot right now, he's come back from a season where he was abused physically week in week out, a losing season where very little went right for the team he was on, he's then had an off season where the main topic of conversation has been whether he will be replaced after his rookie year, he then gets booted out of town to a team that has put up the signs that it's not competing in the near future for a low 2nd rounder with no one else bidding on his services or believing in him.

To expect him to get over all that immediately during a period where the coaching staff are trying to install a new system and there own philosophies while the line has been gutted, is young, lacking in talent and unproven is optimistic in the extreme. Those first few games whoever is under Center are going to be rough, very rough, they coincide with a tough period in our schedule too. I would spare him from that and let him learn a little on the sidelines. The kid is only 22, we have to factor that in to all this too. I don't think missing those first 3 or 4 games will impact our ability greatly to evaluate his abilities, and I'm not sure what we will learn other than can he take a beating.

It isn’t fair to the other players on the team to play a clearly inferior quarterback. thats the reason players would quit on a team/ player.

Rosen sitting for a year isn’t going to stunt his development and is going to improve with practice. Watching a professional like Fitzpatrick week in and week out would be good for him.

Rosen is under contract for three more years, there is absolutely no rush with him.

Rosen has 16 games to show he belongs. If he can't win the starting job or wins it and stinks it up on the field hes gone or getting replaced by a new draftee. He might have 3 years guaranteed but Flores doesn't.....regardless of whatever his contract says if the team hasn't found a QB three years from now hes going to be out of a job.

He can learn to operate the offense in a game. Rosen is super smart. Im sure he is going to pick up the playbook just fine. He will definitely take some lumps in the first few games, but if he cant overcome some lumps and get a head start on the offense, hes not the franchise guy as it is.

Rosen has 16 games to show he belongs.

Wow! Now that's a pretty definitive, absolute, deterministic "opinion."

Perhaps it's just me -- but I don't believe anyone here can make such decisions
unless you're coach Flo in disguise?

People are saying we need to start Rosen week one because he has 16 games to show what he can do. I get that but Tannehill got 7 freaking years and we saw what he COULDN'T do. I feel that it might not be fair to say Rosen has only 16 game to "prove he belongs" when you consider the fact he won't have a very good team around him in 2019. I will accept whatever Flores and company want to do as far as who starts when but I feel it's going to be hard expecting him to do as good as we're hoping for with the lack of talent we have.

Of course if he does well with lesser talent around him then we'll be feeling great about him going forward. I think people need to see both sides of the coin here. Lets wait and see how camp and pre season goes.

Let's not forget that Darnold before he got injured really sucked. Through his injury, he had a chance to watch McCown struggle for a few games from the perspective of the sideline. When he came back, there was a marked improvement in his play. A few games watching Fitz before sent in to start surely can't hurt in bringing out the best in Rosen.

Yes! That's more like it!

Opinions are just someone's mental concept about something. Unfortunately, some folks presume their opinions are the actual truth.

Just to avoid a drawn out set of responses arguing semantics, here are some definitions:

opinion: a view judgment or appraisal formed in the mind about a particular matter.
Clearly, this is something anyone can do with or without external augmentation.

presume: to undertake without leave or clear justification.
I like to think of this as "diarrhea of the mouth". Of course, that's just my opinion.
