My Guess, We Get Fitzmagic For 4 Weeks.

It would make a lot of sense to ease Rosen into the job, rather than just throw him in there. We'll see how training camp goes. remembering back to Tanehill's first camp, the plan had obviously been to follow a similar path with Gerard starting and the Ryan taking over, but Gerard got injured and Tanny had to start.

I think Rosen will out perform Fitzmagic in camp but the sensible thing would be to hold him back, we'll see, training camp is going to be fun.

Flores and staff have a LOT of tape on Rosen and I'm certain there are things they want to tweak. A lot of who starts depends on what the staff wants to change, how quickly Rosen picks it up, and what they feel they have in the OL. In any case, IF Rosen starts, he'll have to be unquestionably better than RF. Anything less than that and I suspect they defer to the vet.

What if the plan is to draft the best QB next year regardless, and the two of them compete for the starting role over the next couple years?instead of dumping an unknown commodity after just one year in hopes your new unknown commodity pans out.

If Rosen shows anything less than elite football and they pass on drafting a QB next year, I will be upset too. But i don't think that's going to happen

People are saying we need to start Rosen week one because he has 16 games to show what he can do. I get that but Tannehill got 7 freaking years and we saw what he COULDN'T do. I feel that it might not be fair to say Rosen has only 16 game to "prove he belongs" when you consider the fact he won't have a very good team around him in 2019. I will accept whatever Flores and company want to do as far as who starts when but I feel it's going to be hard expecting him to do as good as we're hoping for with the lack of talent we have.

Of course if he does well with lesser talent around him then we'll be feeling great about him going forward. I think people need to see both sides of the coin here. Lets wait and see how camp and pre season goes.

He was improving every year with 2 solid back to back seasons with dopes running the show & no OL and was absolutely showing what he could do up to the injury...revisionist history

He can learn to operate the offense in a game. Rosen is super smart. Im sure he is going to pick up the playbook just fine. He will definitely take some lumps in the first few games, but if he cant overcome some lumps and get a head start on the offense, hes not the franchise guy as it is.
That's just crazy talk. Yes, Rosen, by all accounts is smart, but you do not "learn the offense" in game conditions. You damn well better know it before hand.

A modern NFL offense is not a sandlot game, and you can't evaluate pre/post snap reads if the QB is just "winging it".

Thoae days are over, and have been for two decades.

He was improving, I'll give you that. He also played behind below average O-lines, at times.

He was, however, also doomed to a ceiling of mediocrity by his complete lack of pocket presence, and situational awareness.

I didnt say learn the offense. I said learn how to operate it. You can learn the playbook all you want, but you have to have feel of it in game, and that doesnt come from studying the playbook.

Though it makes sense after the bye week my guess is the 4th game at home vs the Chargers. There is no reason to rush him in. The only way Rosen starts from day 1 is if he thoroughly outplays Fitzpatrick in the preseason and camp.

But under normal circumstances it makes sense to sit him for 3 or 4 games. I agree with the OP that the latest will be after the bye week but my feeling is against the Chargers in the sweet and friendly confines of Hard Rock Stadium.

Park him on the bench all season.

Way too much risk of crushing his emotional health.

With that clarification, I would agree, to the extent that you don't really know how he will execute the O, until he does it "under fire".

OMG I just realized there's this thing

where you don't play an actual game

but basically do the same things

you do in a game (in a somewhat

more controlled environment verses

an actual game) to prepare for an actual

game and (total shocker to me) dudes that do

this other thing really well tend to also perform

well in an actual game!

Whatever it is -- I think it's a magnificent invention

and I fully expect Flores to use this amazing process

to evaluate participants, recommend superior methods

and quite possibly determine which players are

(another shocker) actually ready for live bullets!

If there was only a name for it...

Is it AAF? CFL?

Rosen is in year 2 and we have to find out what we have, why is the sensible thing to hold him back?

Because he could very well be the team's future, so you give him the best chance to succeed.

We've all seen guys who played lights out in practice, but choked in games. And the opposite is true
