I can't remember exactly, but I think that song was about that plane crash, in which the Big Bopper, Valens and Holly died. Maybe there was someone else? Maybe not. If I were a hick, I'd choose to believe it was when Lynyrd Skynyrd's plane crashed, although that may not fit the timeline.
