Some insight into what the Dolphins are getting with their undrafted rookie free agent pickups on offense:

▪ Colorado State receiver Preston Williams:

A former elite recruit out of Georgia, the 6-4 Williams had two nondescript years at Tennessee, then blossomed in his one season at Colorado State last year, producing 96 catches for 1,345 yards (he led the Mountain West in both categories).

Pro Football Focus calls him one of the NFL’s 10 best undrafted free agent signings.

▪ Maryland’s Tre Watson:

The Dolphins swooped in to wrest Watson away from the Redskins, who thought they were signing him after the draft.

Watson, a 6-2, 236-pound inside linebacker, had 108 tackles, was first-team All-Big 10, averaged more tackles per game than anyone else in the conference (9.6) and had a Big Ten-leading five interceptions last season but still didn’t get an invitation to the Combine.

What’s more, Pro Football Focus ranked him 29th among all linebackers in run stop percentage.

So yes, he will have the proverbial chip on the shoulder after going undrafted.

Frankly I was hoping for and expecting a bit of a better UDFA crop. With guys like Mitch Hyatt and Beau Benzschawel available, we ought to have found an OL. How come they didn't mention that Needham kid at CB?

I like Butler, but it could come down to roster numbers. With Miami likely to keep a fullback on the roster will they carry only 5 receivers? Are Parker, Williams, Stills, Wilson and Grant close to being locks? From all the hype Williams is getting it's unlikely the Dolphins could risk putting him on the practice squad. So it's 53 man roster or goodbye in his case. Sounds like he's good a great chance of making the final roster if he stays out of trouble.

As for Butler his best route to the roster would be if the team keeps 6 wrs or if Williams and Butler both look so good and the Dolphins seek to trade Parker for a mid-round (4th or 5th) draft pick.

I think this was just a look at the offensive udfa.

When was the last time we had an udfa player make an impact on offense? Bess?

We're due for a contributor.

I think both UDFA receivers have a chance to contribute. Also think Shaq Calhoun will make the roster and has an outside chance to start.
