Setting Realistic Expectations For Miami Dolphins’ Josh Rosen

If you guys think this franchise is going to waste time on fitz, you are crazy. i would be shocked if fitz is starting let alone on this roster by the end of camp. It just makes no sense when your trying to find the future. We are not competing with the top 20 this year it makes no sense to have fitz waste valuable evaluation time with a potential franchise qb in the pen. Flo saying Josh will compete is just coach speak out of respect for Fitz.

We disagree. As others have said, getting a 'realistic' read on Rosen requires knowing what he has around him. RF get the 1st 4 games to set a baseline. Rosen NOT starting doesn't equate to Rosen sucks.

First 4 games seems reasonable though I think first 3 games. Either way 12-13 games is plenty to evaluate.

My expectations are low in the beginning. It is all about forgetting his year in Arizona. Be accurate on the short and medium throws. Throw at the appropriate times. Show some pocket awareness. Read the defense pre and post snap. Learn from your mistakes and gradually improve. I want to see progression. He doesnt have to set the world on fire. Use your playmakers. He can set the world on fire in his second year with us after a blockbuster draft in 2020.

The only way I see him starting from game 1 is if he out plays Fitzpatrick by leaps in preseason and camp.

Will they waste time on Rosen if it's not working. Yes, I know they shouldn't in that case, but will they? My god 7 years with Tannehill.

i'll just go with what i see...our roster sucks so w/l record isn't going to be significant to me.

more concerned about how he looks - on time - prepared - accurate - smart decisions, etc

obviously i want to see a trending up PPG - i want to see him lead our offense

there was a certain stagnation...a slowwww and passive way our offense seemed to run with tannehill under center...it was either perfectly flowing or completely nonexistant

I'll take it game by game and look forward to seeing what we have in Rosen...and yes I expect him to be starting week 1

If he doesn't start opening day than this organization is more dysfunctional than I even fear it may be. They need to make an evaluation of Rosen as quickly as possible and they need to give him as many first team reps as possible right from the first mini camps going forward. He already had basically a full season last year to get his feet wet. Miami, most likely, will be too well positioned due to their record and abundance of draft picks heading into next year's draft to squander an opportunity to draft a potential franchise qb by not knowing what they have in Rosen.

Fitz is a career back-up and he knows his role. No doubt Rosen starts.

The way I see it is if Rosen plays great, awesome, this team is in dire need of a playmaker at that position and has needed it for a long time. If he doesn’t show anything worth a hill of beans, he was cheap and at best he could be a great backup to whoever they want to pick up next year. So it’s a win win situation imo. Cheap starter or a cheap backup. Guess we’ll find out after he plays some games this season what they have in the kid.

Please stop over analyzing this guy, need to be a top 10 QB this season? when your initial expectation is for the team to be terrible? How is that supposed to happen when the pundits says that Miami has the least talented roster in the NFL, and can you please let me know which QB in college that get drafted next year should be rated in all of the passing stats a top 10 QB with this roster?

Miami must be very harsh when evaluating Rosen. To bypass a 2020 QB, particularly Tua, because Rosen "shows promise" would be a huge mistake. Unless Rosen plays Miami out of range for a top QB, QB should be the pick. You may say that's not fair, and I think Miami should have made a more significant effort to solidify OL, especially RT, but what's done is done.

Keeping my expectations low.

Most have hit on the things Im looking for, but Id be lying if I didnt say Im hoping to see a few 300+ yard games with 3+ TD passes.

Might not be the measuring stick for him, but would make me feel a whole hell of alot better about moving forward with him.

5000 yards passing 64 TDs and 4 INTs tops.

Tad pessimistic if you ask me.

If the Dolphins are even considering another QB next year or the year after, starting Rosen right away is the sensible thing. If they are all in on Rosen as the franchise pick, expect him to ride the bench until the OL proves it can block.

I think they are all in on Rosen. Cheap or not, the deal doesn’t make sense unless they think he can be the franchise. I expect a 2 to 3 year run as starter before giving up on him.
