Rosen Pick Can Harm Fins

If Rosen starts 16 games with this roster and wins 6-7+ then great. That means our biggest problem in 2 decades has been solved. It's simple, really. If a 22 year old QB can win with an awful collection of talent then he's the second coming.

The main argument for acquiring Rosen is that he has a chance to be good, for a minimal price.

The flaw here is that most posters say “hey, if he bombs then we just go QB in 2020”. No downside, right?

Wrong.

It is VERY likely that he wins the starting job early on, and with a year already under his belt, he may grind us to 6 or 7 wins.

If that happens, most likely in my opinion, we will be out of the sweepstakes for a top QB in 2020. Trust me when I say that a QB needy team will not trade out of their top spot/s I’m 2020, regardless of the compensation offered.

So, a likely outcome is Fins in a draft purgatory position, again.

The only workaround is to start Fitzcake for the entirety (or most) of the season. And then let Rosen and Tua/Fromm etc battle for the starting position in 2020.
As you mention here, there will be more than one good QB available. You won't have to get to #1

PManning threw a lot of TDs in his first season but threw a few more INTs and only managed a 3-13 record despite the great Marshall Faulk rushing for 1300 yards + an additional 900 yards receiving. I'm sure there were a representative number of fans calling for them to draft McNabb, Akili Smith or Culpepper.

IMO, given what Rosen will have to work with, I'd consider 6 wins to be a validating success

It is not uncommon for a new coaching staff to get 9-10 wins their first year.

If that's what we end up getting and go into the playoffs are we worse off then having waited a year to try and get a QB that you want? I don't think so!

Remember that other teams will want him too and we may not be able to get him or he may not be successful for any number of reasons:

1) He is a "flash in the pan" (this seems to happen about 1/2 the time).
2) He sustains an injury that takes him out of play for a year (didn't that happen to Luck?).
3) He gets huffy about our coaches and demands to be traded to another team (the prima donna syndrome, which seems to be happening more often).
4) Says he would rather not play at all then play for the Dolphins (didn't Eli Manning do something like that when he was drafted?).

When I consider all these very real potential scenarios, I would rather stay with Rosen and trade him if he doesn't work out. When I think about the known information we have about Rosen, such as his having been through his first year of NFL play and survived behind an even worse OL then the Dolphins I see a driven player. I consider his skill set, which is not only exceptional, but now has NFL film of his play last year, as a real commodity for evaluation as opposed to "he was jerk in high school".

Now we come to the last and most important part of all this analysis; how will he work in the new coaching staffs play book?

I have no insider information, but I can look at recent history and draw some reasonable conclusions. My conclusions are Rosen will THRIVE under the new coaching staff. I fee he is EXACTLY the QB they want.

He is a smart QB who has shown that he can read and respond to NFL defenses and survive hits with little or no serious injury. That, combined with his QB basic skill set should makes him an EXCELLENT candidate to do well with a head coach who has worked as the OC for the Patriots working with Brady.

I now have a season to enjoy watching the growth and development of the new Dolphins team with their new staff and new players. Then there is also my opportunity to observe the circus of lemmings postings about how everything is screwed up because we didn't do what they wanted during the draft, free agency, coaching selection, game plans or via player performance.

I'm pretty sure I'll have some enlightening comments to make in response to that circus, but this year I'll try to keep it to a minimum because, well, its like placing pearls before swine (or lemmings).

Take your pick.

I'm beginning to think fans get the teams they deserve as this is yet another poorly reasoned thread (let tank for a crapshoot #1)

I've watched enough film on Rosen now to know that if protected he can be a very interesting QB. He is a natural passer.....the ones coming out of college, they are at best unknowns, at worst some are seriously overrated.

Like everyone else, the OP is entitled to his opinion. However, in terms of misplaced priorities, I believe he's the same OP who started a thread encouraging us to chip in for a billboard calling for Gase's head ..w/o considering the possibility of become FH supporters when this site often runs in the red.

This schtick is really getting old.

You should approach trying to get money out of the members here a different way.

Why would I do that? How else am I going to expose you for this guilt laden bullying tactic you're using on the fine people of FH?
You'd have to put in a lot more time and grade to earn the credibility to expose anyone. Right now you're just another recent Negative Nelly flash in the pan that I've seen come and go regularly LOL

That's some funny s**t there.

I don't know what's funnier, the calm, matter of fact, response itself, or the "fine people of FH".

Either way, gold my friend.
