Coach stated that Rosen must earn the starter job. Hmm. Everyone knows that Rosen will be the starter, regardless of his performance in camp/exhibition games, at the start of the season.

Agree?

If it close maybe. But if he looks horrible in preseason I expect Fitzpatrick to start at the beginning of the season. I'm actually hoping Fitzpatrick is the starter in the first two preseason games. I don't want to see one possession by Rosen and then Fitzpatrick get two quarters of action. I would like to see Rosen get 50% of the preseason snaps early.

you can't just say you're handing him the job outright.

i expect rosen to win the job outright, but even if fitzy looks better "youth movement/potential" may factor into coach's definition of "earning it."

Coachspeak. 99.9% of what is said in pressers and interviews is tame sanitised fluff.

As a counterpoint someone please post the Dennis Green vid.

Rosen is being evaluated to see if he is the long term answer at QB, if we happen to land the 1st pick in the draft would we feel comfortable moving it for say 3 1st round picks and really jump starting are rebuild. Not saying we would, but it would be nice to know if we have that option.

Happens all the time, young highly touted rookies are not as good as some of the veterans there replacing. But if you don't let them play there never going to learn, it's all about potential, coaches make these decision all the time.

Just like Rev Kev said it's just coach speak and they do it often

If Rosen can't beat out Fitz in TC/PS, there's your answer on if he's the answer.

This is not the coaching staff that would hand the starting job to a Josh Rosen based on Miami having traded a 2nd round pick for him.

This is not the coaching staff that would conduct a sham competition, either.

If this were Adam Gase, then yeah. There would probably be a sham competition, Rosen would "win", and he would play. But this is a coaching staff full of hard-asses. You could see Jake Rudock starting games before Josh Rosen, if they feel like Rosen isn't "getting it".
