Attack an opponents weakness, whether it be runs between the tackles, "drags" across the middle by recievers, or whatever the case may be. It's also huge if you can make those adjustments on the fly during games.
I am no way in favor of the 3yds in a cloud of dust method. That hasn't worked as a steady diet in a couple decades. It sure is a nice option with the lead, in the fourth quarter though. Tends to break an opponents will.
I know it is not easy to field a team that is proficient at everything, but if you can pull it off, it is tough to stop.
