Dolphins Extend X Howard

This may be a dumb question... but he plays out this year under his normal contract, right? And that contract begins NEXT season?
No he starts the new contract right away its actually the same contract it was just extended. He'll have a bigger number for this season which is fine we have a bunch of money we won't use this year

Well, Well, Well. I haven't checked any sports news for about 2 hours and this is what I come back too? Just Fantastic News. The Miami Dolphins Front Office is smoking hot this off season!!! This contract is front loaded when Miami will have HUNDREDS of Millions of dollars in Cap Space. That is absolutely the smartest thing Grier could have done. God Damn!!! I'm gonna have me One Hell of a Vanilla Cigar to celebrate!!!

The money is fine with me but he needs to be out there. He's been hurt more than once and miss games so as long as he's healthy then I believe the money's fine.

Xavien Howard DB, Miami Dolphins

Dolphins signed CB Xavien Howard to five-year, $76.5 million contract extension.
It's the largest contract extension among corners in NFL history, and it also makes him the highest-paid corner in the league, something he was looking to achieve during negotiations. The five-year deal includes $46 million guaranteed, which is a fair deal given his Pro Bowl-level talent. Since entering the league as a second-round pick, Howard has been among the best corners in the NFL, and he'll be one of the foundational pieces in the Dolphins' rebuild.

Dolphins to sign Howard to record deal

The Miami Dolphins are signing cornerback Xavien Howard to a record five-year, $76.5 million extension that includes $46 million guaranteed, making him the highest paid corner in the NFL, sources tell ESPN's Adam Schefter.

Howard, 25, will receive $51 million in first three years of the new deal, a source tells ESPN's Cameron Wolfe.

Howard had seven interceptions in 12 games last season, tied for the league best, and made his first career Pro Bowl. He has 11 interceptions in his past 17 games.

He was set to make just under $1.3 million in 2019, the final year of his rookie deal. The cornerback was the No. 38 overall pick in 2016 out of Baylor.
