Dolphins Sign Jordan Mills.

Hum looks and sounds like a bit of a long shot based on past performance but heck that's the mo on some of our moves in the draft. I am very interested on how our coaching staff coaches these guys up this season. That's more important than the talent imo.

This makes our draft strategy even more baffling to me.

Going into the draft loaded with RT options we had no RT and 7 DT’s on the roster so what do, take a DT at 13 and take a project at RT in the 6th and then sign this scrub to compete!

The more things change the more they stay the same.

And there is no way we could fill all of the holes on the roster in one draft. So I think change came here and it is positive!!!

You know what?

I'd be pissed if we had an edge rusher, right tackle, or cornerback ranked equally (or nearly equally) at any spot where we took a different position (especially in the first round).

The fact that we took Wilkins when we had bigger needs than DT tells me he was the highest rated player on our board by more than a sliver.

It's always nice when need matches BPA, but going for lesser players out of need makes you consistently suck over time.

But he's high on the charts athletically. So technique can be taught but talent cannot. That was a worthwhile gamble in the 6th round. Look how NE turned a 49ers 7th round pick in Trent Brown into a good enough LT to command the contract he got from Oakland in just one year in NE.

I don't care his football athleticism is bad. He has the worst weight distribution of any Tackle that was drafted. Gets killed on inside moves.

Trent Brown was talented at UF, but lazy. He didn't have body balance issues. I think all the talk of NE turning him into a great player is a fallacy. He was a very solid player for the 49ers before the trade. Brady's release time makes everyone look better and no doubt he benefited from Scar's coaching.

6th and 7th round picks are for high priority practice squad players that generally aren't capable of making your 53. That's why you see smart franchises such as Philadelphia and New England (ironically the last 2 champions) eschew them, and turn them into proven big league talent.

I'm not trying to knock a swing on upside pick in the 6th round. Prince was the best day 3 pick. But posters are acting like Prince will just easily start. Mills has 82 career starts. The odds of a 6th round pick starting 32 or more games is less than 10%

I'll take the odds.

Hey, I'm glad you are still here. You should post more frequently, especially on stuff like this.

Weight distribution is the perfect way to describe Prince's weaknesses. So often his shoulders would go one way and his hips the other way. I mentioned here after the draft that his coordination simply doesn't translate into NFL pass blocking competence, not outside at tackle. He's seemingly too tall for inside. Every time I tried to allow another chance I would give up after watching a handful of plays.

The easiest way to evaluate Prince was to compare him to any of the other starting Buckeyes linemen

Competition brings out the best in a person. The more, the merrier right now, can only help.

I don't think people realize what Sitton would have meant to the line if we could have gotten a few more good years out of him. Too bad couldn't hold on two or three years.
Unfortunately, he started breaking down at the wrong time for us...

Yeah just got old fast. Fell off a cliff. I was hoping he would play a couple years for us and then ride off into the sunset.
Would have been nice, he was a definite upgrade for us. I was excited to see him play for us. Once those big guys start having injuries, they go downhill fast. Carrying a lot of weight on your frame doesn't bode well for the body, no matter the shape you're in.

Pretty simple really. Three step drops and the ball is gone, supplemented by a power running game.

I disagree. I think it's more complicated than that. We will definitely use three-step drops, but with Rosen's comfort level with the play action and the slew of TE's we have, I think we will be looking at more 5 step drops and play action. I think I read somewhere, can't find it now, that Brady led the league in 5 step drops a few years ago.
