What are the chances that Mark Walton will impress enough to earn a spot on the roster?

I think he's a long shot to earn a training camp invite. Come September I can't imagine their won't be better options on the market or on practice squads that can be raided. That's not even condidering his off the field issues. Talent, style and college production wise Walton a lesser version of Myles Gaskin.

Walson is more talented than Gaskin. Everything else goes to Gaskin

Not saying you're wrong, but what makes you say Walton is more talented? I watched both play college ball. Both are similar size. Both are shifty and quick but not really fast. Production wasn't very close as Gaskins put up some very impressive numbers. Talent wise what do you see Walton having that Gaskin doesn't? I would say Walton might be the better receiver out of the back field, even though Gaskin isn't poor in that area.

“I think people deserve a second chance,” new Miami coach Brian Flores told the Palm Beach Post. “I believe that. I think that’s the case. I don’t want to judge people based on one incident. Two incidents. I think it’s a case-by-case situation for a player and for people in general. That’s kind of my stance.”

How 'bout 3 incidences? The first 2 were bad enough, but the third was a combination of marijuana, reckless driving and felony concealed weapons charges from an alleged incident in March. Either he was too stupid to learn from the other two incidences or is just a guy that doesn't care because of his athletic talent. I just don't see how he'll be able to stay in the league.

Great move by Flores ! And I mean that...

Miami has appeared to have gone too far the other way with being too conservative w giving guys w off the field histories a chance.

I have felt enormously frustrated w that and previous regimes.

Here you have a talent whose about to need a new career or spend time in jail if he does not figure it out.

So he is gonna do one or the other. Sometimes a guy in this situation uses his desperation to go as hard as he can the right way and you score - Shula seemed to pretty well withi these kinds of players...not perfect - Irving Fryar was an example....

If Walton makes the team it will be as much about his special teams prowess as it will his ability as a RB. But his off-field incidents make it an uphill battle. That doesn't favor him as a tie-breaker when it comes down to battling for a roster spot.

Great player at UM. If he can get his head on straight, and impress I think he goes on the P-Squad.

It's all a matter of staying out of trouble. He can flat out ball, and fits this scheme very well.

Many of us wanted him in last year's draft, and liked him around the same range we took Ballage.

Especially in year 1, Coach Flores is going to be very careful about the PEOPLE he brings in the program. For us to sign Walton to camp, I think he definitely has a shot to make the team.

We are going to see Walton/Gaskin/Farrow fight for 2 spots, with the first 2 having a slight leg up from age. Farrow has a slight leg up from being in NE where he was solidly liked

Just based on where they were always rated. Walton was a high 4 star recruit who entered the draft a year early and was picked in the 4th round. Gaskin was a 3 star recruit who stayed all four years and was picked in the 7th round.

I remember when Miami won the recruiting battle for Walton. It was considered a really big deal considering all the major offers he had, including Florida State and Florida, etc.

Walton is quick and elusive and can catch the ball. He became injury prone his final season with the Canes. I think it started with the game at Duke, which I attended.

Then he ran the disappointing 40 at the combine. Prior to that there had been some talk about late 2nd round or within the 3rd round.

The off field stuff really didn't begin until he left college. Fans on Canes sites mostly dismissed the first one because it didn't seem to fit his reputation. Then the second one was a jolt and by the third time it's difficult to believe he's not some type of jerk.

Flores said second chance. I can live with marijuana, but not the gun carrying and not a third time. That really says impressively stupid or those are his true core values.
