Fitzpatrick, Rosen Begin Qb Competition In Miami

If I were you I would avoid using that word...

'Foolish'.

Your argument is not just WEAK, it is basically completely ignorant about the game of football..

At ANY level, be it HS, college or the NFL.

Winning games matters.
The NFL is a business AND a sport,
every player under contract costs MONEY.

The superbowl is won by teams that play the best, AS A TEAM

NOT by the team that has the best statistical QB play...

This is the case EVERY YEAR.

How many super bowl rings does Dan Marino have?
Totally different era than when Dan played. If Dan was playing now, Miami would be a contender every year. Hell Miami practically was a contender every year when he played and the team around him was garbage for a majority of his career. Did you take a look at the teams that made the playoffs this year and who the QB's were? The league has turned into a wide open passing league. QB has never been more important.

3rd best in the league last year vs the worst. I wonder who will prevail. The unintelligent FL and Twitter wingdings are all in on Rosen.

3rd best? Who was third best in what? I think Fitz can beat Rosen out on experience alone. This guy has thrown more TD's in 3 games than Rosen had for 13 games last year.

Give Rosen a fair shake and let him start, and let Fitzpatrick do what he does best. Come off the bench. (Not really a dig, he’s a viable backup)

I don't believe for a second they do not already have Rosen penciled in as their starter. I can't see how they could spin it if he's not the starter for the 1st game.
I disagree. Why would Flores risk his reputation and his word by saying one thing and clearly doing another? He’s trying to build trust. Giving Rosen the job if he did not earn it would be a huge mistake because there is more on the line than a QB competition. For him to be successful, our players need to respect him. Lying is a good way to erode that trust.

There's no risk when they say we will have a competition. It's what they all say. But there's one QB they traded for and when they signed as a FA.

Lol. Do you realize how foolish that mentality is? It really doesn't matter how good those ten "other" guys on offense are if the qb isn't good enough. The most important position in any professional sport is qb. Until you get that right nothing else matters. Why do you think Miami has been floundering around for the last 20 years?

Most important position in football...undoubtedly. Pro Sports, I'd disagree. Point Guard in basketball is more important. I'd say pitcher in baseball also. Perhaps goalie in soccer and hockey...dont follow them enough to weigh in with conviction.

I think Rosen will win the starting job BUT...

I know that this may NOT be obvious to everyone but....

How do they evaluate the TEN other guys playing offense if the QB can't do his job?

How much money are they paying those TEN other players on Offense?

How much money are they paying Rosen?

It REALLY isn't all that complicated, REALLY it isn't.

Don't let the cl0wns in the local media confuse you.

What good is drafting #1, and getting the "very best college QB' in the draft,

if there is NOTHING behind him on offense?

Football is a TEAM Sport.

As much as I'd like to see Rosen pencilled in as starter these are very good points. If Rosen shows to be mediocre then how does the staff grade the rbs when the other team loads the box, or how do we know what we have at wr. I think Rosen wins out and it would prove to have been a waste if he doesnt win out and we draft tua next year. But if was a low risk high reward gamble

The players aren't stupid. I'm quite confident that on day one of training camp Fitzpatrick will be the #1 QB on the depth chart and every player in that building will know who the starter is. The coaches and players and media will all play the game and platitudes will spring forward in abundance.

There is always some truth to it all. If Rosen completely stinks up the joint hes not going to start.

If Fitzpatrick turns out to be another David Woodley I am all for him starting on opening day.

The issue will be for the fans, when the Dolphins name Rosen the starter and say they based that decision on the entire off-season rather than just pre-season games.

Personally I would be surprised if Rosen sees a lot of playing time during pre-season games. Again I think the decision has already been made. It would be embarrassing to have the 2nd or 3rd tier FA QB start over a young QB the franchise just traded for.

True, but then what does Fitzpatrick typically do? He follows up those great stretches with a string of s***ty performances.

Fitzpatrick will start and take the beatings until the oline is stabilized
If the team gets on a roll, he will start until he has a bad game or two.
Realistically I think Rosen gets his shot next year.
New staff, new players. The vet has the advantage

3rd best at what? Throwing interceptions

Fitzpatrick had a bizarre statistical season last year, with several important categories more than 2.5 yards per attempt above his career average. The odds on that were astronomical and the odds of repeating it -- or anything nearby -- are even higher, which is why he was available.
