Don’t Write Off The Miami Dolphins, They Could Sneak A Wildcard Spot

EVERY. SINGLE. SEASON.

THIS is why you all have meltdowns by midseason, because you ACTUALLY thought *there was a chance* we could make the playoffs.

Stop doing this to yourselves. You're sick.

HA HA bro, I can't believe what I'm reading on this thread. It's unbelievable!

Best part of the article: "The acquisition of multiple former Patriot coaches shows they are chasing a winning mentality. I am not going to offer a lazy analysis that those from the Bill Belichick coaching tree struggle to impress once leaving it. Each coach should be judged upon their own merits and there is a hopefulness with the Brian Flores hire."

I always thought that was an idiotic analysis myself.

I do not believe this team can adequately put pressure on the QB, and I do not feel confident they can stop the run, although I feel better about that bit than I did pre-draft.

I am not particularly confident about the QB position for this year, although I certainly think Rosen has the talent to be a top-tier QB. The health of Grant and Wilson makes me question the WR corps, and the offensive line scares the bejeezus out of me.

I *do* like the coaching/advisory staff. If the Fins run a ground-heavy offense, execute game plans well, and lots of questionable areas solidify, they could possibly have a winning season. I do not believe that will occur. I see 3-4 wins.

The real wild card is the coaching staff.

If these guys are what we need, hang onto your shorts.

I never felt excited about Gase. He had some credentials, etc. But I hoped he would be that guy.

Of course, I had no choice.

I do feel different about the new staff. That several are former NE guys is incidental and no guarantee that we will quickly have the success that the Patriots have had.

But what they’ve done makes more sense than anything I’ve seen in 20 years.

Wild Card slot? Possible. Very slim chance.

But possible.

I think people under-estimate the leap from winning 7 games to 9 or 10 and sneaking into the playoffs.

Fact is we won a lot of games last year with an awful point differential.

I don't think we're a 3 win team, but I think replicating a 7-9 season would be very impressive all things considered.

Hello all. I actually wrote this article from Essex, England. To to see it being discussed all the way over there is a huge buzz. I'm an amateur writer (as you can tell from the terrible analysis ) who just does it as a fun hobby and honestly just wanted to write something interesting about the Dolphins. I genuinely like your team and hope you do well. I'll be rooting for you guys even more now.

Again, thanks. Pretty cool to read your feedback. Go Fins!

We were in the playoff hunt all the way till basically the end last season. If it weren't for bad loses to the Colts and the Bengals, we would have been in. Then again, we got a gifted win vs the Pats.
Playoffs or not this season, like the direction this team is heading

  • If you look at last years team in the end to this years team (as of now), I truly believe that we are as good if not better come game days
  • We are much better at QB (YES, much better)
  • RB's the same
  • O-Line won't be any worse, left side looks to become very solid
  • WRs the same (healthy for the entire season, then much better)
  • DEFENSE, just the coaching alone will improve our defense 10 fold (IMO)
  • Couldn't stop the run, DT position/rotation should be much improved (see Wilkins)
  • DE's didn't provide much pass rush (consistent), though we didn't didn't directly address this area, coaching alone will improve that (oh yea, and no ridiculous wide 9)
  • LBers should be better, more production. Same personal, a year under their belt for the 2 rookies (I know, McMillan wasn't a rookie, but he never played a defensive down his rookie season). Again see coaching
  • Defensive backfield, MUCH MUCH improved, why? Fitzmagic (our FS, not QB) will be playing center field where he excels, I predict Fitz makes the pro bowl this season. McCain will be playing his best/natural position as the slot CB, thus making another pro bowl as such. X-Man is one of the best and will excel under this staff, and the CB opposite of X will/can not play as bad as some of the bodies we had their last year.
  • Special team, punter should be more consistent, kicker good, and specials should be improved because of younger guys competing just to make the roster and STAY on the roster on a weekly basis
FINALLY, COACHING, need I even get into it. Defense no brainer = should see BIG improvement here. Offense, a game plan is a good place to start.

What does this all add up to???? As good if not better team than last year. Yes, let me emphasize T.E.A.M

TNT

I have never seen a worse coaching job then we did last year - on offense and defense.

It was like we had no system, no playbook and Gase cooked up plays on the sideline by rolling the dice.

I do believe that Gase The Genius did have a system: Check the down and distance, and then run the most illogical, idiotic play with the worst chance of success because the defense will never be expecting it!

:bang:

I think the only way this team makes the playoffs is if Rosen has a crazy break out. The Phins were worse than their 7-9 record. I can't remember any dolphin season with more luck than this one with all the missed field goals in close wins and of course the miracle.

The Phins were the only team in the NFL with both its offense and defense in bottom 5 of total yards, and only Arizona and Oakland had worse point differentials. And if you look at the roster not a whole lot has changed (not that I'm upset about that, I'm very glad the Phins stockpiled picks for next year's draft).

Coaching can certainly turn things around too, and hopefully Flores is a significant upgrade over Gase. But if you asked me to put money on the Phins making the playoffs you'd have to give extremely generous odds.

There seem to be 3 basic groups here. Nothing will go right, everything will go right, and about half the stuff will go right. Every honest fan knows about half the stuff will go right. Just no one knows which things on the list will go right. I've said elsewhere I put a lot more emphasis on the coaches than talent. I HOPE the coaches are one of the things that goes right.
