Fitzpatrick, Rosen Begin Qb Competition In Miami

This was a very well thought-out, insightful, and well-written post. Thank you for that.

But we're going to have to agree to disagree.

I distinctly remember that game (I had just turned 13), and my uncle calling from Miami after Woodley got picked off, going bonkers about how the Skins were reading him and they need to go to Strock if they were going to win the game. Remember, Strock played pretty damned well in the playoffs in 81, so it's not like HE wasn't used to the big games. After that phone call? Woodley barely completed anything. He was awful.

He completed four passes the entire game. Four. You can argue with me all you want that the Skins were more physical, and you'd be right, but I don't think that game is 17-13 with Riggins running on that 4th and 1 play in the 4th quarter.

But we'll never know.

Fact is... the Killers B’s had them shut down until the 4th quarter...we had the lead... any semblance of an offense that produced anything and the Dolphins win... Strock should have been playing... Woodley was awful.

Sorry.. irrelevant!

We got a top ten QB in his sophomore year.

That’s like saying you offer $15,000 for an antique car worth $30,000...and because the seller is desperate he takes it... and someone suggesting it’s a $15,000 car when the book says $30,000.

No, it's like saying the seller is desperate, but there still isn't anyone else in the world willing to pay more than 15k. Which means the car is worth 15k to the world.

If Rosen isn’t good enough to beat a journeyman QB who has never made the playoffs, then Miami need to draft a QB top 5 next draft, with any means possible.

No.... the buyer got a good deal ... a steal... like most of the world realizes Miami got with the Josh Rosen deal. The buyer will easily turn a profit and resell that car.

What Miami paid for him does not wipe out the fact that he is a top ten pick value.

In fact...its pretty unanimous that he would have at a minimum been QB2 in the 2019 draft...with one draft pundit saying he was his QB1.

Agree with a tweak. "If Rosen isn’t good enough to beat a journeyman QB [by game 8] who has never made the playoffs, then Miami need to [try for] a QB top 5 next draft.

First 4 games look kinda brutal. Good chance we start 0-4 regardless of QB.
Week 5 is a bye -- so no harm no foul if we allow the vet QB to get us into the
season and then -- contingent on readiness and OL stability -- look at Rosen
in our game 5 -- Skins at home (cool match-up = Rosen's Miami debut vs.
Haskins). That provides more than sufficient time for the staff to have a
firm evaluation on Rosen and hopefully we end with 3-5 wins and a
top 5 or better draft slot.

it not that fitz is not good. I just don't want him being starting qb in Miami or less rosen get hurt. the reason is I want see if rosen is answer at qb. the only team offer fitz starting job was dolphins. everybody else want him as backup.so to start fitz is waste of time. he only got 2 yr left in nfl.

Do you not believe in markets or something? If the world thought we got such an amazing deal why did not a single one of them offer a better deal?

And it was unanimous that he would have been the #2...yet multiple QBs went before the draft pick it took us to get him. I seriously don't see how you can't see the obvious logic that is lacking in this idea.

if ARI did not jump dolphins in 2018. would dolphins have pick Rosen???

Not unanimous.....Todd McShay said he and everyone he knows has Josh Rosen rated with a higher than or equal to grade compared to Kyler Murray.

So why didn't the Giants, Redskins or Broncos trade their picks for him then? Or any other team who has an aging starter?

I can only assume they bought into the narrative from Josh’s early UCLA days that he was a bad teammate...etc etc etc

There’s also the possibility they fell in love with the QB they drafted during the scouting process...and Blamed Rosen for Arizona’s poor performance in 2018.

Frankly, Denver and Washington have a fairly poor record in recent years evaluating QB’s...The Giants appear to have wanted an Eli Manning clone.

You don't find it weird that there was supposedly some near unanimous consensus on Rosens value, but literally every team who needed a QB picked someone else with higher picks?

How about the fact that the Patriots are looking for Brady's heir, and they didn't offer anymore than we did? Can't blame incompetent orginizations with that one.

Again, the market is what it is. If he had a top 10 value today someone would have given them a hell of a lot more than a late second. That's just common sense.

This isn't to say Rosen can't be great (personally I don't see it, but I've certainly been wrong before). The league misses on guys all the time. But you can't sit here and tell me the league values him as a top 10 pick yet 31 teams didn't feel like giving up better than a late second for him. That defies all logic.
