Eric Rowe Feels Ahead Of The Curve

I'm reminded of another guy who came in, relatively low expectations (5th Round rookie), and started because he knew the system - Travis McDaniel. I don't know **** about Rowe, but I wouldn't be terribly surprised if he comes in and does a very adequate job.

Yeah, You and I are going to have to disagree here.
The team has nothing outside of X at the DB position.
I'm not sure how it was going to help the team to let him walk when we have the financial capital to sign the guy long term.

Make no mistake about it teams would have lined up to sign him long term and for big $$$

Exactly, I was thinking more in lines of trade value. I am glad we are keeping him, just hope he can stay healthy.
 
Rowe said he was playing hurt last year but that he's healthy now. If he's 100% healthy and the fact he's played on this defense before then this should be his job to lose. It'd be great if we have our 2nd corner to go along with Howard. One less position to worry about for the 2020 draft.

I have to believe Flores knows what he's getting with the kid. I don't know if that, necessarily, means he is an NFL starting caliber corner, but they obviously think he has what it takes mentally, to play in this system.

His measureables are there.
 
The NFL is all about playing to players strengths. Put guys in the right system put the right pieces in place and play so that guys are doing what they do best.

Miami is picking through the scrap heap to figure out 4,5,6 guys on defense that can play in Flores system - which is a system designed for team defense catering to players strengths. If he pops on 4 to 6 guys that are heretofore unheard of or unheralded in this defense we will be good on defense.

We could surprise!

He, like most dbs in Miami's previous scheme, struggled with the weird nuances that we're asked of corners. And then he got injured.

I really hope he can rebound because we need all the secondary help we can get. Although i though i read somewhere that he's still limping badly!

This is my thinking as well.

It's a shot in the dark, but if the kid just needed another change of scenery with a familiar scheme for the light to turn on, then we may have shored up the boundary. Which is something that hasn't even been mentioned since the Vontae Davis/ Sean Smith draft.

Here's to hoping.

I will say this on that play in the Super Bowl to Julio with 4 minutes to go, you can’t cover any WR better than that. It was one play though and he still made the catch.

I’m expecting more from the UDFAs then Rowe.

This isn't accurate.

Eric Rowe was regarded as a potential late 1st round pick in 2015; Philly was lauded for getting him where they did. Big, fast, versatile. He's had to deal with Chip Kelly's version of the Wide 9 and two groin injuries; it seems that the first one from 2017 never quite healed properly.

If he's healthy and used properly, I'll be surprised if he doesn't outperform a lot of people.

Rowe is the best remaining secondary player on the board and moving up to get him by the Eagles is an aggressive move, but one that should pay off. A lot of folks project him as a safety in the NFL, as our Pete Prisco does, but he has the coverage skills to match up with receivers like a corner if asked to. The Eagles wanted to improve their secondary, and this is a kid with late-first round talent that they got in the middle of the second round. "

In comparison to the last few drafts, Eric Rowe is the cornerback that others wanted Stanley Jean-Baptiste and Keith McGill to be. He’s big, although not huge, versatile and smart. His ability to play the ball didn’t translate well into interceptions, but he had a lot of passes defensed as a cornerback. That should improve in the NFL as he adjusts to cornerback more.

It’s easy to love his physicality because he rarely draws downfield penalties. He’s smart and stays in position well. He doesn't have great deep speed, so he has to win at the line or recover immediately with his feet and length. This is possible because he had to do so at Utah.

A Cover 3 or 4 scheme would fit him well so that he has safety help over top to help hide his lack of excellent speed. At both safety and cornerback, Rowe projects as a quality starter.

The part where he was considered a first round pick.

You say that is if the opinion is concluded by people other than the 32 NFL franchises who actually is and isn’t a first round talent.

One team had a high enough grade on him to take him in the second round and after one season he’s traded for what? The 150th pick maybe?

I’m not saying he’s not better than Torrey McTyer though.

He was projected as a first-round pick by multiple analysts. He went at #47 overall. He we traded by the Eagles because he very specifically didn't fit Jim Schwartz's system, and the coaching staff was overhauled post Chip Kelly.

I'M not saying he's going to turn into an All-Pro, but there is clearly talent there. Setting his expectation as "sub UDFA" is every bit as silly as saying he's going to be an All-Pro.
