Don’t Write Off The Miami Dolphins, They Could Sneak A Wildcard Spot

Not necessarily....... Flores will have the D-Line eating up/occupying O-Lineman/blockers, thus helping keep clean second level defenders (avoiding their suggested weaknesses of shedding blocks). If Burke was competent, why didn't Gase take Burke with him to NY. Exactly.

Using Gase for any point of proof, other than he sucked, is useless with me.

Man vs man, straight A gap domination was the order of the year last year. Period.

The TE?

When you see your A gap being used to decimate you, the TE is the least of my worries.
Scheme = Wide 9. Double/chip play side DT that is playing a 1 or 2 technique and your off to the races.
You may be right, I may be right. We shall see in due time, but scheme alone can make bad=average, average=good, and good=great

Then why be a fan????

Habit? Legacy? Do not know any better?

Miami has so far fallen from its competitive years, it's a wonder how anyone could be a Dolphins fan in the modern era.

Then why be a fan????

It's been a while since I've had to label my sarcasm more clearly. Apologies.

Some on this board, for whatever reason, enjoy very little more than trying to crush optimism and telling others how stupid they are for thinking anything could ever work out.

I'll take 10 or more wins and be happy for the miraculous bounce-back.. I'll take between 1-4 wins and be happy for the tank-rebuild. But why does this feel like a PR program for winning 5 to 9 games and declaring it a victory?

When I think of criticisms with the 2018 team, "dull and boring" don't really come to mind

Usually people only see the negatives. I remember last season - Albert Wilson and Jakeem Grant hand shake while scoring a TD that other teams actually started copying. Drake gave a few "Wow" highlight in 2018 as well as Wilson, Stills, Grant and let's not forget
GORE last year...

There was failure on multiple levels but the 2018 season had plenty of drama and excitement

I'm guardedly optimistic, but no one can shake the 1st 4 games. Not only are the 1st 4 games tough, but Miami's players will be digesting a new scheme, the OL will be getting comfortable with communication, and the coaches will be getting a feel for the strengths/weaknesses of the players. To get to the playoffs (say, 9 wins) and if Miami starts out 1-3 (not unrealistic), they have to win 8 of the last 12. That's a tough assignment and I'm not that optimistic. 6-8 wins - I'm happy.
That is a tough stretch to start the season.

I would point out that, historically, defenses are usually ahead of offenses early in the year, and there is no film to study for opposing teams.

I believe Flores/Graham will take teams by surprise with schemes that attack weaknesses of opponents, and it may take offenses a few weeks to catch on.

I'm probably too optimistic, but I think our talent on the defensive side of the ball is underrated. I can see us fielding a very competent, if not overwhelming, squad. Hopefully it can carry us through the early part of the season, until the O starts to "click".

I know this staff is unproven, but individually they have been part of a lot of winning, and success.

Well that's certainly where we are at. It will take some very serious coaching and a great performance by Rosen to win any games this season. While Gase certainly had his faults come game day regardless of our talent on offense he coached up the team out of his butt on more than one occasion. I have my doubts on Flores capable of doing the same based on first he has never done this before plus the lack of success of other Pats assistant coaches who became head coaches. Hope I am wrong of course. Tired of waiting for us to get it right.

Here we go - we go from being on top of the scrape heap in March, to now sneaking into the playoffs.

I truly believe I might be on my own here standing on the table for the Dolphins.

Arguably the biggest criticism of the 2018 squad is that they were quite dull and boring. Besides the ‘Miami Miracle’ play against the Patriots, I cannot think of anything of relevance that they did last year. Finishing the 2018 season 7-9, it may seem to Dolphins fans that they are often stuck in the purgatory of finishing between the playoffs and the early picks of the draft. While many claimed Miami were potentially ‘Tanking for Tua’ this year, I can’t help but think that they have some potential to be a wildcard team this year. They have a good young core of players and I am a fan of the coaching changes they have made.

I agree with this. We could be a surprise. Happens every year. I am putting a lot of faith in the New coaching staff.
