Dolphins Making Moves

how many armchair gm's on this board were screaming for Asiata to start?

Asiata still has practice squad eligibility! :D

(No idea if he does or not, just messin' around).

Ed Reed was a 2 star recruit.....so...strange comment Awsi...theres a bunch of 5 stars that have been bums. Anyways I do agree with your views and testing on Asiata and O line scouting, dont understand how we've invested so much into O line and cant seem to hit outside the first round, yet we sign UDFA guys, cut them and they have long NFL careers, some like the guy in Philly cant remember his name have become pro bowlers...glad to see them cut guy not worth investing time in, cut them find someone else.

The Patriots churn through lots of decent prospects until they find one that works. Next Up Kirk Barron, let's hope he's the answer. If he's not, let's hope we keep churning through prospects until we find one who is.

Cut with Asiata
Kirk Barron was signed at the conclusion of Miami’s rookie minicamp over the weekend. Barron’s Dolphins tenure is cut shot after just four days.

Im struggling to figure out your deal with the stars. Do you simply draw a line on stars coming out of high school or is it just another tool to use to speak on players? If you do draw the line, where is it? Would you simply just not draft a 2 star recruit???

Star rating has nothing to do with success in the NFL. Not really sure why it was used as an argument against a player. There have been an abundance of players who were less than 3-star recruits that made it in the NFL.

Awsi’s point is that the draft is a crap shoot and you have to maximize your chances. You do that by acquiring as many draft picks as possible and by selecting players that have shown greatness early in their “careers”, like in high school. There’s always going to be examples where five star recruits will not pan out and there’s is always going to be two star recruits who will have great NFL careers but these are the exceptions, not the norm.

Plus draft position matters a lot in the equation...I think early first round, it's more about not screwing up the pick because everyone is on the table. So you can afford to be very selective and tick lots of boxes...adding recruit pedigree as a serious criteria makes a lot of sense to lower your bust rate. As you drop into later rounds, the game becomes more about finding diamonds in the rough...you have to become more permissive. It's true that lots of the first round busts in recent dolphins history probably had subpar pedigrees (charles harris, dion jordan, ryan tannehill)---it's just adding risk when not needed. Contrast that to a Christian Wilkins / Minkah fitzpatrick, too early to tell but seems like Grier may be listening

But that’s simply not true. The evidence is irrefutable. Exceptions to the rule are very small statistical anomalies. That is not the case here.

Hey, churning through these guys is how the Patriots do it, and they eventually find competent people for every position across their offensive line. I'm all in favor of continually turning over new rocks until we find the stone to build our wall.

Wasn't sure where to post this but some people here thought we should have kept him but I guess the FO knew something we didn't know.
