Reshad Jones Not At Ota’s, Posts On Ig

I'm a Jones fan. And I'm happy to give him a pass for last year.

That said, for the reasons you listed, I feel it's even more important for him to show up.

Get to know the new staff, scheme, players, etc.

End of the world? Naw.

Disappoiting? Yea..
I doubt either party is particularly happy with the situation.

The Phins are stuck with a contract that makes him virtually untradeable, unless the eat the money. They may do that anyway, if they can get a mid rd pick out of it.

Jones, IMO, is not going to be happy when his snap count is cut, in favor of younger and more assignment sound players.

This becomes a non story the minute Jones shows up in shape and ready to grind.
Or it becomes a distraction when he is throwing tantrums over being asked to be a "role player"

Or it becomes a non story when he is traded for a box of thin mints that we actually pay for.

None of those possibilities would surprise me, at this point.

I can understand if he, and his family, lived somewhere else, but he is local. Why would he not train with the team? I know it is "voluntary", but how is that relevant, if he is a team first guy? He is making a statement by his absence, and I don't like it.

Unless I miss my guess, Gase was mainly the reason for the discord last season. Burke was Gase's pick for DC and he couldn't have been a bigger clown. The team morale was in the toilet by game 12 and I think that was about the time that Gase lost the locker room. Gase spreads his cheer wherever he goes. Look at all the friends he's made in NY!! I can't wait for that team to start losing badly, and they will. Remember Gase's road record?? In prime time road games Gase was out scored 179-63. In big games Gase chocked every time. We looked crap on Monday Night, we looked crap on Thursday night and we looked crap on Thanksgiving Special Edition.

I'm still freaking stupefied that the New York Jets looked at this guys body of work and hired him to be their Head Coach. Then I was further stupefied when Gase's infighting also landed him the GM job and probably a bunch more money. When the wheels come off in NY the media up there will destroy Gase. It's going to be fun to watch.

Doesn't excuse what Jones did. I think Reshad Jones has been a top tier strong safety for a lot of his time here, but that was some bush league ****.

I've been saying for years that I didn't much like Jones, based on him having a natural tendency to get caught with his nose and eyes in the backfield.

But last year, Gase and company were a complete and utter failure in every single facet of that team.

Go back and watch that Texans game. You will see on at least 2 big plays, Jones was reading Howard being beat and leaving his assignment to help. Things are not so black and white.

Jones is worth a 5th tops. His age and contract are no longer appealing and now the echo chamber backlash is following.

Everybody gives Jones a hard time about last season. However after hearing Minkah say there were weeks he didn't know what position in the secondary he would be playing until game time and how frustrating it was, I could see where a vet like Jones might get upset if he didn't know how the safety pairing was going to look until game time or if he practiced all week for one role week then ended up splitting snaps with McDonald or playing another role. I could see it if a player got hurt at the last minute, but in general players like to know their role.

Wanny, you are right in that coaching doesn't excuse the immaturity and lack of loyalty that Jones displayed for all to see last season. I suspect that Grier is trying to move him but there's no reason to make a poor trade just for the sake of getting rid of him. What he did was bush league and was certainly the result of frustration over the coaching decisions which we now know were awful, especially on the D. I guess we'll know pretty soon what Flores thinks of Jones. He did say everybody gets a clean slate.

The clean slate was ruined when he didn't show for voluntary activities.

A coach can't force, or even publicly berate a player for not attending, but you can bet a guy like Flores won't forget about it, when making future decisions.

Just curious, what would you consider a good trade for Jones? Cuz, I'm not sure where I'd pull the trigger on him either.

Imo it’s a red flag of stupidity when any player doesn’t attention Otas, unless of course the reason is valid.

Wish him the best hope he learns how to lead as a vet and not be so paranoid about up and coming rookies learn how to be a team player and not have I~itis. Great player though . But can not be a great team if the vets don’t create positive energy in the locker room

It would have been an act of good faith and the perception would have been "Yo man the last regime and I didn't see eye to eye so what can we all do now to make it work". Instead it now says "**** you I'll do what I want until you get me out of here".

At first I thought cut him but the more this wears on I say make him linger. Wait it out until the last possible point and then ship his ass out if possible and if that's 2020 so be it.

Nah, don't cut him. You have to pay him anyway.

Play him as a "gunner" on kick teams.
