The 75-yard TD vs. Vikings, he believes, is just a sample of what running back has to offer in 2019

(Note: This continues our annual, occasional series spotlighting members of the Miami Dolphins. In addition to reliving highlights and lowlights of the past season for each player, we’ll provide analysis and criticism, plus take a look at how each player fits — or doesn’t fit — into the team’s plans for 2019.)

• RB Kalen Ballage

Height, weight: 6-foot-2, 237 pounds

College: Arizona State

Impressive every step of the way physically. I like what I saw from him even though it was a small sampling, I blame a lot of it on Gase because of his lack of using two talented RBs.
If I had to take a guess, we’re going to be very happy with this pick

We had Gore and Drake up until that Minnesota game where Gore got hurt and Ballage got that 75 yard run. Ballage wasn't as talented as either of those.

From watching some tape on him from college, up to last season...I see a lotta tippy-toes from this guy when it's handed off to him.

There's that as well. Backfield dancing is never a great thing. If you're good at it, they call it "patient" running but most guys need to be more decisive and see the lane. Not sure if that's why he doesn't break that first tackle but to be a useful NFL back, you have to make that first guy miss or at least not bring you down a little more often. He doesn't have to be Frank Gore mowing people down but he's got to be a lot better at not going down so easily.

He's a lot leaner than I expected for a "big, powerback."
We'll have to see how much power is behind those legs and how he holds up give more carries.

I liked what I saw. I think he’ll be a good player for us. I like him and Drake - wish we had kept Bolden. Versatile player.

I think every team likes their backs due to an amazing increase in the college talent pool. I don't really watch college except for draft time, but we got Gaskins in the late seventh.

Due to Chandler Cox's presence, CK has me thinking Ballage might be starting due to his experience in a two back system.

However, my personal belief is that Gaskins will surprise due to his reputation as not needing good blocking.
