The Miami Dolphins running back unit will be fun to watch this off-season but who will make the final 53 man unit and will there be a surprise release or will be there be a surprise player who takes up a roster spot?

The Dolphins are looking to use a fullback this year so Chandler Cox, a late round draft pick could find himself penciled on to the roster with no competition. Cox, however, needs to prove that he can play at this level and pre-season games will go a long way to seeing exactly what he can provide.

I would like to see what Gaskin can do.

From watching his collegiate tape, I see a guy with exceptional "vision", as well as being proficient at allowing blocks to develop, then hitting the hole with authority. If you could put his talent in Ballage's body, you would have a monster.

It will probably come down to special teams ability when the last RB position is decided.

He’s pretty slow for his size, that’s what worries me.

That is one of the knocks on him.

I will say, however, 40 times, and "football" speed are not the same thing.

His 4.58 40 at the combine was unimpressive, but he was ranked 5th in the shuttle, as well as the bench press, indicating, to me at least, that he does have quickness, as well as surprising strength for his size.

Granted, some of the defenders he faced in college were not NFL quality, but in the film I watched, he was rarely run down from behind in the open field.

I guess part of me likes the consistency he showed throughout his four years. Some might label him as an overachiever, but I think he has the "it" factor. One of those guys that just gets the job done.

Agreed. He's one of those guys (ala JERRY RICE) that times slow but plays fast. He really does! He's one of the new guys that I'm looking forward to see play in the Aqua.

I don't believe it's that simple Mark Walton who was a 4th round pick in 2018 is going to give Gaskin some strong competition and more than likely sends Gaskin to the practice squad, Gaskin was heavily used college back, could use a year off. Both vary similar.

I'll be the first to admit that I had never watched Gaskin play before the Dolphins drafted him. And, after they did, I didn't think Gaskin had a chance to be anything more than a fringe back-up in the NFL, because I kept reading analysts who said he was too slow. But, then I read that Emmitt Smith ran 4.52 and 4.53 for his 40 times, at his UF Pro Day workout. Obviously, Gaskin isn't Emmitt Smith. But, when I watched some video of Gaskin playing, and saw how good he is at following blockers, I'm not as quick now to dismiss his chances to make the 53 and contribute.

I bullish on Gaskin -- really think his "game"

is going to transition very effectively to the Pros.

I'm also bullish on Cox.

I really want to see what both Cox and Gaskin can do. I just hope they get a little help from the O-line.

The Pats have always been at their best when they've had backs that can fill every role. Someone is going to have to show they can run from a traditional power set and I don't think either Drake or Ballage.

4.58 is just fine if a guy plays football fast. Dalvin Cook's workout was terrible and that guy looks fast every time he touches the ball. Ronnie Brown ran a blazing 40 and always looked like he was about to lose a foot race to Keith Traylor when carrying the ball (he had his moments, but his game speed was terrible).

I believe we will see this

Obviously, Gaskin isn't Emmitt Smith.

Stats look closer than your comment reveals... I know "SEC vs. Pac-12"...competition blah blah blah.... regardless of competition Gaskins played 4 years and was a work horse...
other teams knew him, knew he was coming and still didn't stop him Emmit played in 31 games... Gaskins played in 52... we will see

What am I missing? I think the guy, based on his college numbers, shouldn't be thrown out too soon
