Dolphins Fire Ol Coach Pat Flaherty; Dave Deguglielmo Promoted

Refreshing....

It took 2 nationally televised embarrassments for Sparano to fire the DC and STC.

Philbin was threatened with his own job when he refused to fire his butt buddy Sherman.

Gase got rid of players instead of Matt Burke

Flores it seems is not sentimental when it comes to putting the best product out there. Actually Dave D is an upgrade.. I continue to appreciate what I see out of Flores so far.

My totally speculative feeling based on nothing but my gut:

Former OLine coach was being stubborn and trying to get subpar players to do things they couldn't do. New OLine coach pulled Flores aside with a new scheme he thinks can better mask the lack of talent that he wants to implement.

You could look at this a few ways.

1. Flores isn’t messing around and holding people accountable.

Or

2. Flores bumbled one of this first hires and is now desperately trying to correct his mistake.

I think it’s a mix of both. Not good firing coaches less than a week in, especially one you just hired for the job.

I wouldnt say he bumbled it. As recent as 2 years ago Flaherty had a very good OL in Jacksonville but sometimes things dont work for various reasons. I've seen coaches relieve coordinators right before the season

He helped coach the Giants o-line to four straight playoffs, including their SB win over NE. He also was with us during Sparano's season where we rushed for nearly 2000 yards (and still had a losing season, sigh).

He also subbed in for Scarnecchia the two years he "retired" from the Pats and Deguglielmo coached their line to another championship, the one over Seattle (idiot Carroll).

So clearly a pretty good line coach who knows this system like the back of his hand. Sounds like Flaherty was just an old-timer who couldn't adjust...

I know everyone is trying to make sense of this but to blame the coach for this o-line after 4 practices? I believe there's more to it than we've been told. All this crap that the coach can't relate to the players is what we hear all the time now. At what point is the players and at what point is the coach? The O-line has been horrible for years and this coach just got here. I'm not saying that the firing was wrong as I don't know any details. Just saying we need to stop blaming everything on coaching.
