Training Camp Updates - Day Five

I never thought the drop off was all that bad when he filled in for James at RT. I don't see how anyone likes him better at OG, he's just not built for that

Does anyone have any clips of him playing right tackle cause I swear I don’t remember that in a game and multiple people have said it. I’d just like to see it

1. Tua has me on anticipation. He makes the read and the ball is on its way before the receiver is done with the break. His anticipation is about as good as I have ever seen from a college player. That translates to the next level exceptionally well. In fact, that is a very common weakness even in talented guys. Tua has pretty thick frame so you'd like to think he will be durable but he seems to reel alot after getting popped.

2. I think Justin Herbert is criminally underrated on this website. I sense a group think on the guy where he's overly nitpicked. You can nitpick anyone, including Marino. I like this kid. Big, strong, breathtaking arm talent.

3. Josh Rosen is giving me a Joey Harrington feel, not to get too limited to pacific coast conference qb's. I don't think its incumbent on the team to play him. If he can't get on the field, that answers the question frankly.

That Joey Harrington vibe thing is interesting

Gun to your head and you can only pick one: Tua or Trevor?
Who's likely to be the boom? Who's likely to be the bust?

That's easy - I think they're both going to be great pros someday.

But if you're basing it off one game, I think it's a faulty way to go about it. We still need to see more from both.

I remember a sophomore quarterback by the name of Peyton Manning getting outplayed badly in 1995 by Danny Wuerffel and the Gators.

Wuerffel threw for nearly 400 yards and 6 touchdowns in that game. Running for another to make it 7 total. Manning and the Vols lost 62-37 that day.

If you only account for one game, Wuerffel was clearly going to be a better pro than Peyton Manning. I remember Baker Mayfield and Oklahoma getting waxed by Clemson his sophomore year to the tune of 37-17. A day in which Mayfield threw 2 costly interceptions.

There's still a lot of football to be played for all these guys.

So how long would be expect him to learn to do this? Just because he hasn't, doesnt mean he can't learn it....I hope.

Maybe his accuracy will improve once he's not thinking so hard?

Just throwing out hope here.

I thought his timing and his accuracy was very good at UCLA.

So I’m not sure what’s going on with that. But zona and I guess us he’s late and off.

Wierd

I know there was some flats throws in that zona tape where I was like you can’t miss that

From everything I've read, Rosen sounds like a very cerebral QB. Could be he is overthinking things instead of letting his instinct take over.

Hopefully time helps iron this out. That is certainly one thing he did not have in multiple ways in Arizona.

Rosen will settle down. Or he won't. Just a possibility but the staff may have him
focusing on "something" right now that's throwing him off -- or just the simple fact
he's not comfortable in the overall scheme/situation yet.

Whatever it is -- it's way too early to make any final judgments.

I remember dudes like Doug Williams, Jim Plunlett and Steve Young
who kinda floundered early in their careers before turning things around
once they landed in the right situation. Not saying that's a lock to happen here
but it IS a possibility.

It's going to take some time. Though of course everyone around here has
ZERO patience after the Thill years.

Instant gratification rules the day!

One thing I will say is Carson wentz couldn’t throw it in tbe ocean underneath especially as a rookie. He came back his 2nd year and took it to an entirely different level and as a result so did his overall play.

So it’s not unusual for a guy to have some accuracy issues as a rookie. Of course this is year 2

Some are genuinely concerned, some are impatient, some are hoping for the worst and a 2020 QB.

I think Flores is going to put building his program over the QB. The better QB will play until he shows he's not better. I know I'm in the minority but I'm disappointed that there isn't anything setting Josh Rosen apart from Ryan Fitzpatrick. You can talk to me about experience and 1 extra month in the system blah, blah, blah. Ryan Fitzpatrick is an average at best journeyman NFL QB, a highly drafted prospect should be showing some attribute that makes coaches want to get him out there. You guys can sugar coat this all you want, it's disappointing to me.

It's not sugar coating at all. You have a guy who is very smart, been in the league a while, and has talent versus a kid who came from a dumpster fire of an organization. Of course Fitz is going to. E leading the way. Being an NFL QB is as much, if not more, about being smart and a leader than it is being athletic. There is a reason why Manning will be in the HOF and not Vick.

Think about it like this. Fitz already knows German, Latin, French, and Italian but is now being asked to learn Portuguese. Rosen only knows English. Who do you think will pick it up faster?

there's not much more pathetic than blowhards calling Rosen a bust 5 days into training camp. It's just laughable. New offense, new coach, new teammates, new system and he's just in his second year. I'm embarrassed for some of you

You can't possibly be implying that many posters have a proclivity to overreact?
