Why New Dolphins Coach Brian Flores Is The Antithesis Of Adam Gase

Gase had positives. He improved culture tremendously from philbin. That has been documented in these forums and the vip section. Players never studied around philbin and constantly late. Gase held them accountable and did try to improve the culture.

His problem was his ego got big after playoff run. He stuck to his guys. Old players. Like the tight end Thomas. and cutler. Hiring and keeping matt Burke was the biggest mistake.
Smart move by jets to get proven d cordinator.

I like what Flores is doing. But none of it will matter if we don’t get a franchise qb.

Just like if darnold is great then gase will do well no matter his ego or flaws.

Flores must find qb. But I do love his approach of tough football, conditioning., having a full back. But this will only turn out well with a great qb. Not telling anyone anything new I know. Just my thoughts.
I do think Gase could do well in New York. At least initially. Agree that bringing in Williams was a smart move. Gase didn't hire enough quality assistant coaches in Miami. His true talent of developing quarterbacks is a strength that could help him stick around.

I quickly became annoyed with some of the things going on in Miami with Gase. It was obvious he wanted nothing to do with the defensive side of the football. We've heard that from players such as Cam Wake. Being a supposed offensive guru, he never was able to build that side. The offense was just as big of a mess as the defense. Would he have eventually been able to build the offense? Was it more of a quarterback issue? That's possible.

I love hearing that Flores is working with all groups, putting his mark so to speak on the entire team. I guess that's what I expect from a head coach. As far as how it all plays out, only time will tell.

Shula was obviously one of the most successful coaches in the history of the game. But, as you alluded to, his penchant for sticking with assistants (loyalty) really hurt him. If I'm not mistaken, he had a shot to hire Pete Carroll back when Miami's defense was a mess but stuck with Tom Olividatti (spelling?).

Anyway, to the subject at hand. I was very surprised to see the move this early, but that does show a lot about Flores. The antithesis of Gase is exactly what I think this team needs. I remember feeling early on with Gase that their were red flags. I remember hearing that he was buddy, buddy with players and everyone whose ever been in a supervisory role knows that doesn't work. Lets now see how this plays out. Flores's first season could be a mess, win wise. Miami has talent, but lacks talent in crucial areas (offensive line, pass rusher, maybe quarterback). It's a building process and hopefully Flores will be given time.

The best thing Gase ever did was cut Dallas Thomas and Billy Turner on the spot. That's it.

I mean even he had enough sense to know when something that obvious is just a waste of time and patience isn't the answer. Action is.

But the red flags surrounding Gase were found in his penchant for signing players he was familiar with, and the coaching hires he made. Conversely, it's hard to really blame him for the former when he simply doesn't have a choice due to the people in charge of bringing in talent simply couldn't provide him with any other reasonable options. Also, he wasn't involved enough in other areas of the team. He just wasn't detailed enough.

I like Flores so far but this is an annual puff piece about why this time it's different than before with this team.

For all we know we will be joking about the TNT wall in 4-5 years.

Produce on the field and worry about the quirky stuff later.

Could be but that is something a lot of coaches do to get teams to focus on details. If team has fundamentals down no need for that

Making the coaches run is a big deal to me. Flores is saying he needs accountability from everyone. Also that he is the Alpha w/o question.

DT's Godchaux and Taylor CB Howard OT Tunsil I'm sure there are a few others, how much he did is more than questionable

Who did Gase develop?
It's a fair question. I think he has a strong track record with quarterbacks. By all accounts, Manning, Cutler and even Tannehill had their best seasons under Gase's tutelage. Let's see if he can do the same for Darnold, really the first young quarterback he has worked with.

I like the emphasis on a cohesive "team" that Flores has. We've dealt with Scheme vs Players (in Gase and Cam Cameron's regimes), or GM vs Coach (in the Philbin and Sparano regime) or Conservative vs Aggressive approach (in the Wannstedt and Jimmy Johnson regimes). I guess the lone exception was that game or two under Dan Campbell, but that was quickly snuffed out with his lack of experience at the position. Still, I remember how unique that Dan Campbell team felt because it was one of the few times you saw everyone pulling for each other with genuine "us vs the world" emotion. Hopefully this team plays out like that. They certainly will be challenged early and often with the lack of talent in areas of the roster.

Personally, I just really, really, really, really want an exciting offense. I feel like it has been forever since we have seen anything resembling even an average offensive group. Give me "decent" and I'll be good.

The article asks when we were out in Gase...I’ve mentioned this before a few times here but last year after attending camp for a week I was disgusted with him and done with him..Here are some quotes I pulled from last year..

“Interesting to watch Gase the last two days, the guy has conversations on the sideline with lots of folks, while he allows his assistants to be on field coaching..”

“Today was club med, not much to come to any conclusions about players, or too much play by play..just some observations..”

“Gase nowhere to be found..oh there he is off to the side talking to someone.”

“Simple formation drills to start by all three units on offense, side by side just going through the motions”

“When does this team run and condition, cause they sure as hell don’t do it in practice”

“All three units standing on the sidelines watching each unit scrimmage one unit at a time, that’s 71 players doing nothing for 1 hour and some change..”

“Don’t understand where Gase is”

“Hey Gase, there you are..goes over and talks to Jakeem.

After that camp it because clear he was trying to be the buddy not a head football coach, it was obvious then he didn’t have what it takes to get dirty on the field with his players, to at least be present and teach them them technique and fundamentals..He was absent every day on the field..

He was simply an offensive coordinator, and not a very good one imo.

After so much digging on Flores, really a lot, I think he’s gonna be a great coach.. He cares about his players well being, he he oozes leadership qualities, he wants to be involved with every facet of his team, and we also know he can call a good game..

Darnold will make him look good imo, Darnold has so much talent and work ethic a monkey could develop him..

I think The fans will turn on Gase first chance they get and root for Greg Williams, Williams is already winning over their hearts addressing them at a recent practice..

"Best season" is really a fraudulent way of looking at it. What Gase knew was how to manipulate quarterback rating to make himself look good, as if there were actually real improvement.

Ignoring the Manning years because Manning was a finished product, he didn't develop anything at QB. Cutler and the Bears offense wasn't good. It just so happened Cutler had slightly better numbers than he usually did because Gase loves to throw near the goal line to pad stats as you can see from the amazing Cutler play we got last year. Then of course Tannehill barely looked any better while consistently leading a bad offense overall.

Watch how often they throw when they get in the red zone in New York despite having Bell. Gase is a fraud as a QB "whisperer" and always has been.

Gase can design a cool route here and there in fairness to him. The issue that is showing is the lack of fundamentals kill him. He is in fact a lot like his mentor Mike Martz. When everything goes right the offense is high flying but as the defense learned how to counter the offense the changes were not made.

But really the ego is the big thing
