Flores Praises Josh Rosen

#1 Most teams QB's do not make it through to start every game, and with our OL ours won't either. #2 I think our coaching staff realizes the Fitz is not the long term answer and will be looking to promote Rosen to find out what they have. #3 They have all season to figure it out. In order to get of of the possibles coming out next year at QB we would have to finish in the top 5 draft order to have a chance, trading up will be cost prohibited, we have too many other needs to become competitive. If we finish top 5 we know we need a QB.
I think given time to learn what is expected from Fitz and the coaches we'll see that a low 2nd was a good deal, maybe even a great one.

A Rd1 QBs being "elite" is also the exception, not the rule, historically.

I agree the "odds" get better the higher the pick, but it's 50/50 at best, even for top of the round selections.
I believe some of that has alot to do with the situation these guys end up in... Teams drafting in the top 5 are usually really bad, putting a rookie QB in those environements is an uphill battle from the start. Good thing is, Fins will have alot of resources to surround their rookie with talent...

I agree with most of that. I disagree that moving up would be cost prohibitive. It really depends on the circumstances behind the wins that kept you from having a top pick.

If it's obvious Rosen is NOT the future, we have amassed enough picks to move up without mortgaging the future.

If the staff believes In Rosen, they could put that decision off to 2021. I realize that wouldn't be popular with many members here, but it is a distinct possibility.

It was great to see Josh Rosen emerge from the scrimmage as the clear winner of the QB competition for that day. He apparently displayed accuracy and good command of the offense. Perhaps Josh Rosen has Finally begun to unlock his enormous potential. There is still a lot of football left. Perhaps he's starting to put it together and begun to figure it out. I believe Miami hedged their bets when they traded for him. It's a win, win situation they've put themselves in. But unfortunately if they find out 2 years from now, he's not the guy. They may not be in a position to get the # 1 pick to select Trevor Lawrence. Whoever gets that pick, is certainly not going to trade it. Miami's QB decision comes down to Rosen's ability to reach his potential. If not, QB is almost certainly the choice in 2020.

True to an extent, but not always. Look at guys like Aikman and P. Manning. They went to horrible teams, and were great.

On the other hand, you have guys like Marriota, who wouldn't be very good regardless of the team around them.

Obviously, top picks are generally going to bad teams. A great QB can, many times, transform the team into a winner.

I agree 100% with this.

This is the complete opposite of the popular sentiment with posters who post here multiple times every day though.

This is why tanking is such a ridiculous idea.

We agree to disagree... Flores will not tank, and IMHO that means 6-8 wins, putting us in the 9-13 slot in the draft. Moving up would cost a 1 and a 2 this year, and a 1 next year (2021) and again my opinion is that is too much for this franchise to absorb and continue to grow. It would still take a year for a rookie QB to assimilate and become competitive. That would cost Flores his job, your looking at 2 more bad years and no high draft talent to show for it. Tua wouldn't last 1/2 a season behind this line. Just me though.

I agree with Travis Wingfield. The first four games on the Dolphins schedule are brutal followed by a bye week. Unless there is a clear winner at the quarterback competition, start Ryan Fitzpatrick the first four games. The last thing Josh Rosen needs after last year's experience, is to play behind another shaky offensive line and get the crap beat out of him to open the season. Going into the bye, they can get Rosen ready and Guge can continue working to improve the OL. The Redskins after the bye is a winnable game.

The higher you pick, the better the odds is the complete opposite of the popular sentiment? Huh?

The difference is both those teams traded major talent (Walker & Falk) to acquire draft choices they turned into weapons and protectors. Who could we use to supplement?

??

Not sure how you spun what I wrote that way. It must have taken some effort.

Losing every game or MOST games in a season deliberately

in order to draft a QB at the top of the draft....

is a ridiculous idea. :)

The 'odds' are better with better ranked QBs, of course,

but the college game and the pro game are DIFFERENT in many ways.

These two ideas contradict each other

Head coach Brian Flores told reporters his young quarterback is making real progress.

“I think he’s made some improvement, really across the board,” Flores said. “There’s things that a lot of people don’t see. Better footwork, mechanics in the pocket, decision-making. A lot of times people, all they see is the touchdown pass; they don’t see the checkdown that’s a positive play for the team. I think he’s improved in those areas and I think those are the little things that go a long way at that position.”

“He’s very talented. Has a big arm. Is smart. Communicates well. But again, it’s hard to not mention consistency in this environment,” Brian Flores said about Josh Rosen. Says it’s still an open competition.

I thought he was talking about Rosen, then he changes to "consistency."

I mean you've got a much better shot a consistency with Rosen than with Fitzpatrick... Fitzpatrick is to consistency what fire is to gasoline...lol!
