Here's Every Snap Of Rosen's Phin Debut

Yeah as bad as the OL was the only one who did not improve as the night went on was Mills. He wasnt the only one to get beat but he was the one that consistently got boat raced.

As for Rosen, overall he showed some good things that warrant a look with the first team in game 2. One complaint I had is there were a couple throws he was just a tad slow on.
That INT was terrible. If you make that throw you have to throw much earlier

If Fitz is still labeled the starter then Flores is just testing his character at this point.
I would disagree. Fitz wasn't given much time because Coach Flo knows what he has in Fitz and he has outperformed Rosen in camp rather significantly. We didn't want to expose him to injury, and we really needed to get more tape on Rosen, who is a bit more of a work in progress. I'd start Fitz for sure, because one OK preseason performance simply isn't enough to change a camp full of performances. Rosen didn't throw for 3 TD's and score 20+ points … he was OK, not great. But, Rosen did earn another big chunk of time in preseason game #2, at least in my book.

We finally have some decent tape of Rosen. He'll have more good and bad tape as well … no reason to leap to conclusions because of one showing, particularly not one that looked mediocre but not terrible. Let's see more of Rosen and check to see that he continues to trend up without repeating his mistakes.

Fitzpatrick is not better then Rosen imo if that's where you are going with that. At one point Fitzpatrick badly missed an open Gesicki, Rosen was overall more accurate and yes I know it was limited time for fitz

One criticism I have for Rosen was his timing, that seems to be the issue. It was the issue with the INT and it was why he didn't connect with his RBs more often. It was poor timing imo. Clean up the timing and you have something

Realize I said that Fitz had proven to be better over the course of the preseason … not the 5 throws he was given in preseason game 1. Hope that makes my stance a tad clearer. I'm certainly not going to take a starting QB's starter status away from him when he's only given 5 throws to prove himself. That sample size is just too small to make meaningful comparisons.

Hard to perform with Mills at LT and to a lesser extent Reed at C. But, Rosen needs to stop trying to throw while being tackled … that is a recipe for INT's, and a bad habit to form in pre-season.

Overall he had a decent game … nothing great but he did lead scoring drives. Clean up the INT and the throwing while being tackled and there's some decent stuff there. He also had an ample supply of preseason tape. Something to build upon and lots to improve, so for a 1st preseason game not too bad.

Judging that bolded statement on all his snaps to the QBs this century, he sounds better already.

There were a couple instances where I wished he would've just taken the sack. Once was a completion, but that could very well be an INT also. He made some great throws last night.

We need to see progress or he'll be deemed a bust. We saw some progress. The relative improvement is encouraging … let's hope it continues.

Rosen showed a higher ceiling than Fitzpatrick, IMO. His ball placement was better than I can remember seeing on this team in years. Pennington had great ball placement, but no velocity. Rosen put the ball in perfect position on most of his throws. He looked like a top 10 draft pick to me.

Four throws that really stood out:
1) Sideline bomb to Williams. Perfect placement.
2) Sideline toe tap to Williams. Same drive.
3) The fade to Williams in the corner. If the DB doesn't hold, I think it is a TD
4) The 2nd half throw to Walford over the middle for ~20 yards.

#4 was probably the most impressive. He dropped that between 3 defenders perfectly.

I can only think of two WTF throws:
1) The prayer to Williams as he was getting taken down. Completed, with PI, but ehhh
2) That INT was a head scratcher.

Maybe he pushed some throws because he's being pushed in camp. I think he will progress well ahead of Fitz.

And I won't blow a gasket if Fitz remains the starter, but I do think Rosen has closed the gap. Doesn't matter a ton at this stage, because like you said, he'll get plenty of play time these next two games.

But I would be more excited to see Rosen start game 3 than Fitz, since that's the closest thing to a real game the preseason can provide.

I mean I am still ok with Fitz starting the season, but unless this team looks amazing with a great record by the early bye . . . Josh has to be in by then.

To me, Rosen performed as well as I thought he could. Especially if you keep in mind he's just a 2nd year QB playing behind a very questionable o-line. I'm encouraged. I like that he never seemed rattled. The game will continue to slow down for him, and his attitude seems good. Wasnt that supposed to be the big question mark with him? So far, it hasn't seemed to show.

For his pre-season debut it wasn't bad at all. I saw a couple hitches and late throws and that should improve although it was a criticism throughout last year. I'm not ready to name him a starter but his play was encouraging.

Exactly. I don't know how the Dolphins can evaluate Josh Rosen's potential this year, if he is getting pressure on every play. Mills looked like Dallas Thomas. I hope the Dolphins can find a solution.
Your point is valid, to an extent, but not the whole picture.

His physical skills are apparent, and not in need of evaluation.

There are two very important area's that can be evaluated irrespective of line play.
1. Does he have command of the offensive system/scheme to the. point that he doesn't have to. overthink?

2. Can he quickly make the required. pre/post reads?

He has to do those things before anything else matters.
