Preston Williams????

Out of curiosity, is this "typical" for an UDFA?

Did we get into some kind of bidding war with other teams for this guys once he went undrafted? Only asking cuz that seems like a lot of coin for an UDFA. I was under the impression that they usually get peanuts until they make the 53 man roster.

If this kid lives up to the hype (which I truly hope he will because he looks like a monster so far) then that is an absolute steal of a contract

Correct. Those 6 figure numbers are contingent on making the 53 man roster for UDFA's pretty much across the board. Lesser amounts for making the practice squad, etc.

That's why you always have to be careful giving NFL front offices too much credit for UDFA's. There's a huge pool of UDFA's out there once the draft is over and they get to pick where they sign. They picked you. You didn't pick them.

If he's truly got his stuff together, besides trading for potential franchise QB Rosen, this would be the best move by our FO in decades. Sometimes franchises get lucky. Pats did with Brady, Steelers with AB. It's time we had some luck. If we acquired our franchise QB and WR1 in the same offseason and all it cost was a 2nd rounder? That's gold Jerry!!

If I was the guy with the 9.75 mil cap hit this year, I may start to worry about where I was going to play football and start some preliminary inquires of the nicer places to live around Giants stadium. A 3rd round pick or a CB or offensive lineman of equal value could do it and tack that 9.75 on to somewhat impressive 25 mil and were going at a 34-35mil carry over to 20.

Got it, thanks for the information!

Have to imagine this kid was courted heavily after the draft, we're pretty fortunate to have gotten him.

Preston Williams, DeVante Parker as the outside receivers is looking nice, just need someone to lock down the slot.

Problem is DVP is not consistently dominate. He should be uncoverable 1 on 1 against 99% of the smaller CBs in the league. But we know he isn't and teams can more often than not cover him effectively with one guy.

That's a huge problem for supposedly a big receiver.

The other issue is they both posses similar skill sets. Neither are considered quick or burner type guys. They don't really complement each other, IMO!

Preston Williams looks like a tall WR, he catches everything high. Huge catch radius, if Gesicki is much improved as rumored we have something going

Parker will get a big boost to, Williams more than likely draws the other teams top cover corner something Parker use to, Parker now going against number 2 CB.

At the very least Williams, Parker and Gesicki may present a lot of problems in the end zone in red zone situations.

In (reserved, qualified) defense of Parker -- I do not believe we've had the QB talent

on the roster to effectively take advantage of Parker's physicality (see the throws

Rosen made to Preston as an example).

Just for fun. Seriously. Imagine Rosen continues to develop, and pretend we have an OL than can

protect as effectively as Brady has enjoyed throughout her career, and then imagine Parker finally

proving his game and Mister Preston Williams ripping it up and...

Like it or not. There's some serious upside there.

That said, I am in no way predicting Parker finally "arrives," but I think it's still possible.

As far as the pipe dream of a fully functional high-performance OL...

Well, even at my advancing age I can still dream!

Cheers!
