Dolphins Are Selling Ryan Fitzpatrick Over Josh Rosen At Qb, But Don't Buy It

He could be saving Rosen from getting killed by the atrocious O-line with the first for games being against Baltimore, New England, Dallas and the Chargers.
So why is he playing him with the second team offensive line during the preseason? The first string offensive line sucks as it is. The second team offensive line may not be good enough to keep a good high school team at bay. He may die before he even gets reps with the first string offensive line. At least with the starting line, he may only end up in the hospital.

Agree with everything except the characterization of Rosen’s performance as mediocre...he had a big mistake....he led 3 scoring drives over 60 yards each.

I think he played better than average and made some big time throws that big time quarterbacks make.

This is all about building a champion, not trying to go .500.

So evaluating Rosen is key....finding the franchise QB is key....if we need to draft one next year we need to be sure Rosen is not the guy....I think he very well could be.
He also led a 4th drive that would have resulted in a score but I believe Butler was the one guilty of the fumble. It may have been someone else. Really good ball movement under Rosen Game 1 with limited time in this system or the NFL for that matter.

Because he’s not facing 1st string DL players behind the 2nd line yet. Defenses are still vanilla. There’s not much difference between Miami’s 1st and 2nd O-line teams. Both are bad. It’s definitely safer to have Rosen with the 2nd O-line team vs fringe players in the preseason showing vanilla defenses than it will be behind the 1st O-line team vs top level defenses in the regular season where the defense is no longer vanilla.

I don't mind if they want to start Fitz for a few games in hopes of making sure the offense has some rhythm. We need to get everyone going and evaluate everyone. But Fitz shouldn't be starting past a certain point, he's a known commodity and failed over and over on better teams. But I do worry....just like I knew Gase would ruin his entire regime by an infatuation with Cutler (and make no mistake, riding with Cutler caused the wheels to fall off with Ajayi and Landry, which caused Gase's regime to fall apart by delivering both a losing product the next year and one in which the stars that people might have come to see regardless were gone), I worry that Fitz constantly does just enough to not lose his job, we suffer through a predictably mediocre season, and at the end of the year we know nothing more about QB than we did before.

I'm not sure if this team has ones at OL.

Yeah I agree with ya. It’s tunsil and what looks like depth forced to play as 1s

But hey New England’s done a lot of it before and it’s worked out. Guys play maybe above their heads

I think a lot of it’s coaching with the pats.

Once you build a line that's stable and has cohesion you can plug in spare parts that are well coached and can play in sync and not miss too much. The problem is getting to that point.

A QB who three times throws desperation throws out of being in the grips of tackled and doesn't get even one INT from it needs to learn that he got lucky and took a very bad risk. He made some good throws when not pressured. But his recklessness needs to be rectified. He wasn't punished for it today, none of those bad decisions came back to haunt him … but they were very bad decisions regardless. Once you look as those as bad plays--despite not being intercepted--and realize how many times Preston Williams bailed him out … I don't see how you can call it any better than a mediocre performance.

Sure, he gave his WR a chance and put it where the WR is most likely to be the person who comes down with it … I'm not trying to undervalue that. But, he threw a lot of risky balls and if he does this against 1st teamers during the regular season, he's going to throw a lot of INT's.

I agree on the one completion where Williams came back....but other than that I think it’s not justified criticism. You want another Tannehill?

The Marino’s and Favre’s will put the ball in places the Tannehill’s won’t....that’s why they are in the hall.

The other completetions to Williams were great throws

Rosen will get the job when the coach thinks he's ready for it. The focus at the moment is on Rosen's aptitude in learning how to read Defenses. I thought there were a lot of things to like about Rosen's performance the other night. He seems to have better pocket presence than Ryan Tannehill (but so does a bucket of rocks). The interception and the comment from Flores that he wants to see less "gunslinger", are a reminder that Josh is a work in progress. I like the way Coach Flores is managing this. He knows what he has in Fitzpatrick and he's making Rosen earn the starting QB role.
Looking back in time, this is how Philbin should have handled Tannehill his rookie year. Yeah Matt Moore wasn’t great but he had 20+ career starts under his belt when Tannehill “earned it” w a 37 QBR in the Pre season or whatever it was. Guy wasn’t brought up right.

My point was, why does Rosen need this special treatment? He needs to be playing so he can be evaluated. This team is going to have to make a decision about what direction they want to go at the QB position by the end of this season. The offensive line is what it is. It's not going to magically get better over the course of the season. It could actually get worse as the season goes on if they happen to have any injuries to any of the starters. I just don't understand the mentality that Rosen has to be handled with kid gloves. He is now in his second season. He should have made a serious jump from his rookie year. So far I haven't seen that, but this franchise has to figure that out asap.

You can still get a QB next year, but there is not a in Next years draft that is much better than him, clean up the o-line play and allow him to stand up and be a passer, everything is not his doing, Make no different who the QB might be no o-line no touchdowns. Sure Rosen made a dumb pass but it's football and he's still learning, a heavy dose of running the football will cure a lots of his problems.

I've seen decades of football. Nearly EVERY game EVERY QB makes 2-3 bad throws. Making a point by pointing out 2-3 bad throws is hurting their cause

Tunsil didn’t even play that game, so not sure the evaluation was completely reflective of what they will actually be. There are some things they can do schematically that they might not show in the preseason such as chip block from fullback, and double teams with tight ends and what not. However the opposing defenses are also not showing all of their stunts and blitzes and such either.

The line will struggle I believe, but it will be better with our starting LT playing
