My Take On The Game

Walton has looked very competent as a receiver and in pass protection/blitz pickup . . . But he needs to hit the hole and stop trying to bounce all the time. Not that there were many holes last night against the Tampa first team D.

I think as of now, he is on the roster but it's not a lock.

Our starting OL looked miles better yesterday than what we are used to. There were signs of cohessivness. Once they substituted players it all went to hell. There is still a lot of work to be done but the first two preseason games (in combination with TC) are there to find the best fit. Once you find the best fit you work them together to get better. On an effective OL you need five guys to work in sync, to work as one.

On the QBs: if I compare both preseason games:
Fitz with the 1st team in game 1 did not look as good as Rosen with the 1st team in game 2.
Fitz with the 2nd/3rd team in game 2 did not look as good as Rosen with the 2nd/3rd team in game 1.

Just like the starting OL yesterday Rosen has still a lot of work cut out for him but I like what I see from him so far. Fitz looked bad in both games. It's almost like he just goes through the motions of a guy who either was guaranteed the startig gig already or someone who does not care at all. Since game 3 in preseason is considered somewhat of a dress rehearsal for the regular season we will see if he is just another Cutler (from his attitude) or if they already promised him the job. Based on both pre season games and TC Rosen should be the starter next week.
I can't help but develop a liking towards Ruddock as well. That kid is really trying to make the best out of a situation in which he has been guranteed the dreaded 3rd string QB card. I hope we keep him on the active roster (with our shaky OL not a bad idea) because if we put him on the PS some team will snatch him away.

The interior of the OL is dreadful, were going to get very little from the running game to help the QB.

Kiko and McMillian- have you missed them at all?
Good to see Harris finally finish and get to QB, so many times he was just a tick late previously.

DB competition is something to watch Armstrong, Hartage, Smith, Wiltz, lammons- they seem to like Needham still. Davis got beat for the winning catch, just couldn’t defend that size and good throw.

I think Lammons has a shot to make it, he is a guy Im pulling for.

I’m surprised (unless I’ve missed it) I’ve seen no commentary on Charles Harris in this thread. I thought he was everywhere in that first half. Very active, two sacks and could have had a third had one of his teammates not tripped him as he was in chase. Dude balled last night with relentless pursuit. Forced a throw behind a receiver on another series that wasn’t mentioned by the commentators. Great to see.

He's been mentioned in other threads. Maybe the light is coming on.

Agree on Ruddock. Unfortunately he made that bad pick that was intercepted but came right back for what we thought was the winning TD and 2 point conversion. They probably wont carry him but yes it could be a mistake...

Yea not sure he gets carried as teams rarely go with 3 on the active roster. Practice squad seems like a given though.

Interesting. I have him pulling up the rear right now. He plays like the slowest of the bunch and very indecisive. I'm pulling for Laird as our #3.

Well I agree on the Rosen almost pick and that's why I said two bad passes in two weeks is not bad. It's also hard to play QB with no real running game to help. I think he did well. We need to remember that every player/team will have bad plays. It's how you bounce back that really matters. You have 60 minutes to have more good plays than bad.

"You have 60 minutes to have more good plays than bad."

The most succinct, and yet comprehensive description about football I have ever seen!

I liked what I saw from Rosen. I'm not sure the near miss Int was actually a bad pass. He put plenty of air under it and it's not like the safety came over and dropped the pass. The wideout needs to track it better. I havent seen anything from Walton either so he needs to light it up week 4 to have a shot here. I still think our 3rd back will be a waiver claim. Even though we have less talent on the front 7, if they play with discipline they can out perform "better talent"

Now your thinking like the Patriots think.

I really like Gaskin as well.

I still have him slightly ahead of Walton but the difference between the 2 is small. I would say based on what the rotation has been, Gaskin comes in before Walton on Thursday... alternating.

I mean if you have to pick one over the other, Waltons past does not work in his favor...

Nope I've not missed either Kiko or McMillan at all. The LB's are playing like we've not seen in quite some time. Baker and Eguaveon are all over the place.

I thought that our Defense competed pretty well for most of the game, especially the D-line. Errors were made but the big DTs all had their moments. Christian Wilkins, Davon Godchaux and Vincent Taylor all looked good and even Charles Harris got a good sack at DE. He looks like he's put on some muscle. Although he's disappointed to date, this is his third year and don't be surprised if he shows improvement. Tank Carradine looks like a good low cost addition to the team.
Wilkins putting pressure on the Bucs O-line up the middle was good to see.
