Dolphins linebacker Sam Eguavoen showed in Friday night’s preseason loss at the Bucs why coach Brian Flores is starting him, despite the presence of more experienced players.

Eguavoen, who was playing in the CFL last season, and was undrafted out of Texas Tech, was outstanding on Friday, with seven tackles, two tackles for loss and one forced fumble.

Eguavoen, who seemed a bit timid in his first NFL game, played with the passion, enthusiasm and bite that has endeared him to Flores.

“Just playing fearless,” Eguavoen said. “That’s one thing Flo pointed out to me with my film. He knows I’m a good player. It’s just that I have to unleash the beast. I need to play fearless out there. I had my first NFL game ever last week, so coming in this week, I wanted to write all my wrongs.”

He had an outstanding game. The only complaint I have is he’s got to stop dropping his head when he tackles. That play where the tb running back ran for 10 yards after our blown 4th down conversion was due to him doing this. If he corrects that he could be a real force! I’m very encouraged by everything else.

Dude was nasty, didnt realize hecwas playing LB, I thought he was lined up at safety

Showed up and showed out. A little stiff with the quick cod but got some thump to him.

Lb depth looks better this year.

Cut Watson and hanks and p squad them neithers ready. De Lucas got a nice frame but a marginal game. Might be a tough decision there. Frames better than the game.

Like the lb blitz usage especially the come from depth blitz timing the snap count etc.

I really hope Sam gets a lot of playing time, or even starts at the expense of Raekwon. None of our linebackers really have that thump. We need a punisher in the front 7.

Take him over mcmillan all day. Mac is ok within 5-7 yds but after that, his non existant cover skills and o-linemen sloth speed kill his game. Egueoven can cover and is faster and as that opening series de-cleater showed us, he gots some wood. There is a growing chemistry with this current lb group so hopefully flo won't mess that up and start macmillan.

I like him better than Mcmillan, Sam looks faster than his 4.7, 4.8 combine showing but that 39 inch vertical does show on tape, there's mad pop when he tackles our thumps.
