How Miami Dolphins Qb Josh Rosen Could Benefit From Waiting

I remain optimistic that we got a potential steal in trading a late 2nd round draft pick for Rosen (plus paying only $2M/yr for the next 3 years - he's a bargain). He still has very good upside and there is no need to rush him along. Coach Flores is managing the situation well and Josh will be given the starting role if/when they think he is ready.
There is no need to rush this. Rosen has to earn it. The process is also mentally toughening him up along the way by not being handed to him on a silver platter.
What is the worst that can happen? Fitzy leads the team and we learn that we need to draft a QB next year.
As such, there appears little downside and big upside if Rosen comes good. It should also be noted that along the way we successfully extricated ourselves from (a) Tannenbaum, (b) Gase and (c) Tannehill. We spent 7 years trying to develop Tannehill after drafting him, we can show some patience with Rosen and allow Coach Flores to put his stamp on it.

so instead of trading the guy you have not seen play, you trade the guy you know can play because you opted to pick him high in the draft. damn that's wild...

Mike tannebaum is that you?
I have no idea what you are talking about. You've obviously made something up in your head I wasn't saying.

All I was saying is Miami has him under contract for 3 years at a good price. Even if he doesn't start this year or does but not well enough to keep Miami from making QB #1 priority this off season there are a lot of ways this can play out.

Is that you Cleo?

Neither did Fitz, so go with the younger guy. Besides, if it comes down to one guy throws pics, the other gets sacks, i will take sacks all day over int's. Fitz hasnt fixed his habit of throwing pics over 19 years but rosen is 22 years old with one season with a horrid team and horrid o-line. And nfl speed is the culprit right now behind a crappy line (again) but i believe he will work that out in a full season here.

SIT FITZ!!!
The bottom line is if Flores is not confident enough in Rosen to start Rosen then Miami fans have their answer right now.

At this moment Rosen is not the Miami's answer at QB at this time. That may change as the season goes on.

However if Flores chooses not to start Rosen all year we will have our answer whether Rosen will be Miami's QB in 2020.

Do you think Flores and O'Shea don't know whether a QB is legit watching him practice every day?

It's not like they don't have game tape of him starting. He threw 1 TD in his last 5 games last year so it doesn't appear he's one of those players that practices poorly but shows up on game day.

There's nothing stopping the Dolphins from drafting a QB next year and letting Rosen compete with the newly drafted QB next year. Let him sit and learn if he's not ready. It's not like a drafted QB is guaranteed to work out. You'd think with all the failed QB experiments we've had people would stop assuming you can just pick a QB and know instantly that he will be good.

Starting the season is not the bar for Rosen's success or failure. Let Fitz start until this o-line is more of a known commodity. Maybe Flo feels that Rosen can learn a ton by watching Fitz start a few games. It can only help him once he takes the field. Remember Tom Brady was a backup until Drew Bledsoe got injured. Aaron Rodgers sat behind Favre, Mahones didn't dive into the starting lineup right away so why does Rosen have to or he sucks and Grier is stupid? We haven't come close to seeing Rosen's ceiling with this team and noone, not Flores, not anyone can say for certain how the Rosen experiment will turn out. I'm seeing a lot to like in Rosen's game, so let's give him every chance to shine in the future.

Remember, Rosen had a tough first year and then got dumped by the Cardinals. The psyche is most important here and it would be a mistake to start Rosen and have him get annihilated. That's destroying your own #2 pick and possibly ending his career to devastating injury. I don't think that's what we want. Put him in when he's ready to command the offense at a high level. If that's game 3 or 4 who really cares? Right now Fitz can better protect himself against a fierce pass rush because he's still a bit quicker in the decision making. Rosen is closing the gap quickly. We still have 2 pre-season games so let's tap the brakes and see what transpires. Rosen can still be anything from a Hall Of Fame QB to a bust. No one knows but we're going to find out soon. We're in great shape, if we stink, as expected, we get a shot a another blue chip QB like Tua or Hebert. Rosen would have to turn into Marino for me to not draft a Tua etc. Let Tua and Rosen battle it out next year, it's better than Tannehill for God's sake so we're going in the right direction.

Fitzpatrick isn't the future, the dolphins are trying to develop Rosen, what's the purpose of putting Fitzpatrick in when you figure losing is going to get the team another QB to develop?

Noted...and if your wrong I’m sure you’ll man up to your rush to judgement?

i never cared for rosen in college so i dont really see it as a rush, but if i'm wrong and he leads us to the promised land, i'll surely man the hell up right after we're done celebrating.

seriously. what do you really think?

sounds borderline hatred to me....

Geez.

yeah thats a little rough. thats 35 years of frustration. we just went through 7 years of this and were supposed to get a break from it with RFP, rebuild the line and get one of the blue chips in 2019. then we went dolphin and tried another short cut. now we're right back in the same boat here with guys that like josh and guys that don't.

so lets cite the hall of fame guys over the last 25 years as the rule and not the exception. in case you were still wondering, rosen is not gonna come close to those guys' careers.
How do you know this for sure? There isn't anyone who can say this and be dead on accurate. Everyone just want it to be that easy, but its not.

Grier basically disregards all talent available to embrace the rebuild and then makes a silly trade to bring a guy on who was bad last year on a bad team and you put him on a worse team and ask him to be better or he will be replaced next year. I never agreed with that logic, either take pieces and give the kid a chance or roll with the JAGs and draft a QB next year. Ultimately I'm rooting for Rosen but he has the cards stacked against him and Chris Grier looks currently like an idiot imo.

So without even playing a regular season game you have decided that a trade back to pick up another 2nd next year and picking up a former 1st round QB, who has looked somewhat respectable, is idiotic? That may be a little 'short sighted on your part. Most would call it something else but I'm not ready for a timeout...

I don't understand this "START ROSEN NOW SO HE CAN SUCK AND WE CAN DRAFT TUA OR FROMM NEXT YEAR" talk. You do realize that Tua or Fromm will still be behind our OL and more than likely have a ton of pressure still. Why not draft OL specifically next year and DL, role with Rosen and then if he does **** the bed we can be in position to draft TL the year after? Then we will have a better OL to protect TL or Rosen if he plays like a franchise QB.

We are desperate for a QB, yet people are mad that we're turning over every stone.

I think people need to understand that the team isn't always going to go after the player YOU want.
