Junior Seau expected to return

Even though Seau is old, he plays with more heart than anyone else on this defense. That's why he's so vital to our future. We need a guy like Seau in the lockeroom. He supplies the fuel....

Yea and those backups you think have the experience of Seau? Seau is still the second best LB on the team.
are we challenging for the SB next year? No, therefore, it doesnt matter how much experience you have, he's still only here for 1 more year, and it takes away a spot from a younger player that may have a future in the NFL, not some vet hanging on by the skin of his teeth

I think we ALL love Jr but.....what good is it gonna do the team being on the field? I cant question Sabans moves but we are rebuilding....maybe just to be an example, and coach these guys is what he wants? Hopefully he wont be on the actual field all that much....JMO

There are a lot of valid points of view on this.I trust Saban's.

Yep. If Saban thinks he can contribute than great. He is not just going to tear apart our defense without looking at who can and can not contribute. He must have seen something in Seau that makes him want to keep Jr.

We still have to be competitive tho. I dont expect a SB by any means, but want to try for one noe the less. We are very thing at OLB. Im very happy we kept Seau.

Seau was arguably the best LB on the field last year, until his injury. You have to have a mix of experience and youth to give the younger players an example to look to...Seau's work ethic in practice and on the field is second to none. If I'm Saban, I want a guy like that on my team. He may not be the Seau of 5 yrs ago, but even 75% of Seau's old self is as good as many LBs in the league.

Hey im not questioning Seau's performance or work ethic. I know he'll be great for leadership, experience, and a great mentor. I just want Pope and Moore to get their fair share in playing time.

I suppose that we're all thinking that Seau will start. I don't know that that is a given, and if it's not, then the younger players still have a chance. Maybe $1.5M is too much to pay a backup, but I agree with the others that the other things that Seau brings to the table may be worth it.

If he does start, then we can consider it much like the grooming process of a QB. Plus it allows us to focus on other areas, which IMO are in more need of addressing.

Even though he'd be staying, Seau shouldn't be a lock to start IMO....

I'd like to see the young guys get a shot be take it from him, and I'm sure Saban feels the same. On opening day, let the best player start....

Seau wil not be a backup. IMO he w/want to be cut or retire before he sits. He was, as was said, a great run support LB with decent pass rush. He's weak in pass coverage, but still overall a solid LB. There is no way we are in rebuild more. We have a big cap issue with Surtain, but other than that we need to try to compete in the AFCE. Feeley improving and playing like he did the last couple of games is a must as well as getting some depth on OL and RB.
