It's quite nice that Saban keeps it all under his hat, keeps us all guessing. Looks like he's going the low-fi Patriots route in FA and playing a fair bit of 3-4 and trying to bring in people like Kevin Carter, Bobby Hamilton, Tony Bryant, Matt Stewart, Donnie Spragan, Kennoy Kennedy, Dexter Jackson. Mario Edwards is a decent enough nickel back. It would be nice to get Carter, for the right deal and Bryant, Vonnie Holliday and Hamilton all work nicely in the rotation. I like Spragan. He's an underrated 2 year starter for the Horses. I see they are also trying to prise Lamont Jordan away from the Raiders. Can't see them being that succesful on that front which opens an interesting decision for the draft. Will they stay at 2 and take a Ronnie Brown or try and shift down and look at a real 3-4 edge threat in someone like Shawn Merriman? I hope we don't give up the #2 for James. Ron Dayne's coming in!! :)

Looks likely that we will be dealing Surtain soon.

I'm really encouraged by the moves that Saban has made. He clearly has a plan for hard working football players, strengthening the back-up spots - Stewart for example makes our LB's better 1-6 and Spragan is a solid starter. Kenoy Kennedy is a younger quicker version of Sammy Knight and he brings the wood the way Saban likes. I see Marques Douglas remains an option as well. Idrees Bashir is coming in as well.

Don't underestimate how solid these potential moves are. This however throws up interesting possibilities in the draft. If we do go to 3-4, does he look for a 3-4 beast like Shawn Merriman or Travis Johnson, Shaun Cody by shifting down? Or does he take Ronnie Brown?

These are really fun times.
 
Shame we lost Pat Williams to the Vikings.
 
Bobby Hamilton...Is that the old Giants D-Lineman. That guys pretty damn stout. He and Carter, along with our current DL would make us extremely versatile when it comes to schemes. 3-4, 4-3. We have a great start to the bodies we will need, and it looks like he's trying to piece together some LB's, Stewart I like.

Kennedy is a machine, kind of Darius like to me. Very aggressive. He and MVP Jackson would quickly shore up that safety position we just spent time unloading.

Bashir and Dayne, no thanks.

Its nice to see a staff that appears to have a plan in place.

Yeah they signed him at a bargain basement price. Hes still a premier run stuffer, and he received a relatively low contract. I thought he would command at least a $10 million signing bonus.
 
Saban will build this team slowly but surely and only with the type of players that fit his mold ala Pats.I like it.
 
Carter would be a nice addition.

Hopefully, Travis Henry as well.
 
What about Pollard from the Colts to replace Lee the drop machine at the TE position.... Pollard may be a bit old now....?

The Colts cut tight end Marcus Pollard on Wednesday night, saving the team $2.65 million in cap room. The Associated Press is reporting that the team is open to the idea of bringing Pollard back, but only if he is willing to accept a lower salary. "I've always dreaded this day because I didn't know how it would happen and how I would deal with it emotionally," Pollard said. "But as far as how Bill [Polian] and Tony [Dungy] handled it, I got cut, but I don't feel like I got cut, if that makes any sense."

Pollard may not feel like he got cut now, but we bet he'll start feeling that way once the pay checks stop. He was made expendable because of the development of Dallas Clark and Ben Hartsock, who will likely comprise the team's two-tight-end sets next season.

I thought I read he re-signed to a lower deal. If not, he makes a lot of sense.
 
people dont forget Bellicheck didnt take over a horrible team...the Pats were a decent team with some corp players....we really dont have any corp players

not with the reports of Edge and Henry still in the air, I wish Henry would be traded to the Bucs and that Edge would be happy with Indy and all the money. I really want Ronnie Brown, he will be the best RB out of the draft
