PROJECTION:

*Dolphins sign LaVar Arrington

Dolphins Mock Draft:
*Dolphins trade 1st of their three 7th-rd draft picks to Lions for Joey Harrington (Millen will eventually give in IMO; I think we may end up throwing in a 2007 late-rounder though)

1 - Jason Allen - DB - Tennessee - 6'1, 209 lbs - IMO one of the ELITE talents in this draft who will be an immediate All-pro type player; have his workouts proved he's over his injury? (if he's not available at pick 16 or if it's decided that he's too risky of a pick because of injury concerns, I'd like to see us draft DB Donte Whitner out of Ohio St.)

3 - Derek Hagan - WR - 6'2, 208 lbs - Arizona St. - had a somewhat dissappointing offseason up to the draft, but he's big and explosive (1.50 10-yd dash); with reserves Welker and Cambell as tiny speedsters, Hagan should be a nice compliment

4 - Jonathan Lewis - DT - Virginia Tech - 6'1, 310 lbs - one of the most underrated players in this draft class I believe; has impressive workout numbers, but even more impressive production, and was supposedly the unquestioned leader of the Hokie defense; we need some youth and depth at DT; down the road this guy will be a starter IMO

7 - Jai Lewis - TE - George Mason - 6'6, 277 lbs - didn't play college football; a member of the final four basketball team; runs a 4.7-4.75 40-yd dash; recruited out of high school for football and is very athletic; supposedly moving up the draft boards as of late

7 - Will Derting - LB - Washington St. - 6'0, 247 lbs - 2 years ago, was on pace to be one of the top linebackers in the nation, but injuries have seriously limited him; he throws his body around fearlessly and is all over the field

Berger IMO won't be on any PS. He is a mutitalented o-lineman who played as much tackle in college as gaurd and only gave up like 6 sacks as a four year starter. I look for Burger to push someone for a starting job and be the 1st backup at least. Thanks for taking the time to give your opinion. I don't know about Lavar either. I have seen Hodge since he attended UNC and think he will be solid with Crowder Thomas and JT/Spragen at LB. I really beleive we already have a very solid versitile LB corp.

Also Vickerson was getting nothing but praise before the injury which was nothing but a cheap shot and he could'nt have defended himself. I look for Vickerson and Manny to play alot this year.

maybe in the first round we could go for another receiver for culpepper to throw to ...( chad jackson )?????

I'm thinking the same thing. Jackson can use his speed in the slot to beat the defenses third best CB.

IMO the WR position isn't that much of a need. There is more to a passing game than the WR and we have plenty of receiving threats like Ronnie, Beasley, Ricky maybe, Randy and the fearless Welker and Peele can catch also. If a WR is the BPA then take them but don't go out of the way and overlook other needs. Hagans had one year and a bad practice at the senior bowl but the QB's threw to him more than anyone else for a reason and he was considered one of the top 3 WR's in college before the season. Coaching or qb changes could have caused his or contributed to the falloff.

Nice research, and well planned out. Why Allen or Whitner, as opposed to Cromartie or Williams, character issues perhaps?

I have a hard time believing we don't get any offensive linemen.

I'm from Tennessee...so I'm pretty familiar with the Vols, and in my opinion..I would love to see Jason Allen get drafted by us in the first round. The guy is a great athelete, not to mention he can play CB and S. Saban tried to recruit this guy out of high school when he coached at LSU, not to mention LSU is in Tennessee's conference so Saban is very familiar with him. Saban showed what might turn out to be a trend in last year's draft by picking guys from the SEC that he played against. I hope he does the same this year, or at least in the first round

Hagan drops WAAAAYYYY too many passes. We can't have two Chambers on the team. No knock against Chambers. He is a beast when he catches them.
 He caught 94% of the passes thrown to him. I wouldn't say 6% is WAAAAYYYY too many. His biggest knock is his speed, but his hands and concentration will make him a quality possession receiver. He'd be a good compliment to what we have, IMO. Especially if he lasts to the 3rd.

I agree. Hagans would have been a reportedly top Wr pick last year had he came out.

Nice job. A few points I'll make:
  • I don't want anything to do with Hagan. I think he is a stiff. We have enough recievers and tight ends on this team that drop too many passes, I don't want to add another.
  • I don't know about Allen. I like him but he has some injury issues. We have enough young corners and unless Saban KNOWS he can play safety at this level I don't see him drafting a guy in round one and doing a position change with him.
  • I don't see us signing Arrington. I'd LOVE to see it happen but I don't think we're gonna give him the loot he is after. the only way I see it happening is if it is a one year deal so he can rehab his image a little and boost his value for a big payday next offseason.
  • I think we draft a linebacker or reciever in round 1.
  • We'll draft an interior offensive lineman at some point, maybe as high as round 3. I'd love to get a roadgrader right guard so we can move Hadnot and his false starts to center on a permanent basis.
  • Jai Lewis is an interesting observation. If he wants to play football I think another team will reach for him and hope for a Gates type of steal.
  • No way in hell Eddie Moore makes the final roster. Hell, I'm willing to bet he is already hurt.
  • Kevin Vickerson will never make it to the practice squad. If he shows anything in camp he'll be on the final roster. There are enough teams in the NFL that lack depth at defensive tackle, he'll get scooped of the practice squad in a second.
  • We are really thin at safety....it concerns me big time.

I don't love Jason Allen mostly because of his serious hip injury followed by a shoulder injury. If he's breaking down at Tennessee how will he take the pounding at the NFL level? Additional report claims that he was run over by Ronnie Brown and Caddy as a Junior so I worry about his ability against bigtime runners. Do you see him at Corner or Safety? He's a little small for an NFL Safety. I think we can do better with Donte Witner @ Safety or Cromartie @ Corner.
