On O, we upgraded with Groves and Thomas.

On D, we replaced Holliday with McDaniel, Roth (for now) with JT, Wilson should be an upgrade, and we have two CB's with GREAT potential

On ST, we have the same as kickers and returners.

When ya look at all of the above, there is not any big talent difference THIS YEAR.

What will make s better is the improvement from within, having players and coaches together for a year, and developing.

This is what makes or breaks our year.

Opinions?

I agree as far as talent wise, the area where we will improve is the development of that talent. These players have had the same great coaching staff to work with for another year, which means they have the oppurtunity to build on the same system etc which is something many dolphin players have been denied in years past

but overall via draft and free agency we still did add more talent as well anyway you look at it

you forgot wake.
sean smith
pat white
davis?

I did not forget Smith and Davis, unless you know of two other CB's with GREAT potential?

I do not know what Wake and White will bring this year.

I believe I said the same. :buds:

I think the most important upgrade is the interior of the offensive line. Late last year after Smiley went down we could no longer protect up the middle, much less run there. IMHO if they work out you'll see a different team. One that can run when it needs to right up the middle, and that opens everything else up. Oh yea the corners could be special.

I agree with what you said but left alot out IMO.

Brian Hartline gives us a 4th WR who gets seperation and will return kicks with Bess.

Soliai is better and more dependable. Kendall langford will do even better than last year by far.

Our Safety position is much more solid and I would say do not be surprised if Chris Clemons gets alot of PT and makes an impact on ST.

I would say however we lost something in the meantime at TE spot with Martin out.

The difference here is not in talent so much as it is in coaching and management. We are younger yet have a good mix of leaders and players who have high character and work ethic. The coaching takes care of the rest. The second year will be much easier out of the gates to have more at our disposal in tough spots to convert.

The number one reason why this whole thing turned around last year was simply coaching and management. These players are tuned in cus this regime communicates success.

oh yeah, Donald Thomas. Huge upgrade should he stay healthy and it looks good so far. Backup situation is better IMO.

I think Wake will bring a third excellent pass rusher from the 4 down line on passing downs.

I am hoping the biggest upgrade is the experience the WRs have gained. If Ginn, Cam and Bess play as good or better than last year we are going to do well. I think Smith, even though a rookie, is an upgrade right away and Vontae as the Nickel is also an upgrade.

Grove and Thomas will make a difference the issue is how long will it take, I hope it shows tomorrow when both Ronnie and Ricky run for 100 yds a piece.

I also believe Penny is going to be better especially since Sparano and Henning know how to use his strengths and stay away from his weaknesses.

As for special teams I think we have some youth thats strong and fast that will make a big difference on special teams.

Tomorrow will give us a glimpse of what to expect this year.

I can live with the same talent level on offense. It had its anemic moments, which I think will be rectified with a) the stronger offensive line (Thomas, Grove) that should allow a better run game and b) another year together for the receivers and QB and c) same playbook and coaching with another year to innovate.

On defense, we have improved in two areas. The growth and development of players we had last year (Soliai, Langford, etc.) and the overhaul of the secondary (Wilson, Smith, Davis). If we can just get a decent pass rush this year (additions of Taylor, Wake plus new blitz schemes), our new secondary should look pretty good as well.

Overall, it seems like the same talent level, but the improvements are in key areas. That's why it's called "under the radar."

The area I really worry about is special teams. The talent level is the same, and the coaching isn't any better (if anything, it seems worse).

In all due respect, Hartline and Soliai have proven nothing. and our safeties looked horrible in pre-season.

This thread is far from DOOM & GLOOM. Just a realistic view that this year will be about coaching, and the development of players already here.

We added a lot, and not that much for now unless rookies really surprise.
