Just watching the dolphins/jets from 2000 on nfl films, and thinking this is one of the games that really sealed wannys fate. The Fins did a 180 on this from the first half to the second and was 1 of the craziest games in nfl history. I believe it was the longest game on mnf. This and the fins/pats, I forget the exact year I think it was '02, where they relinquished an 11 point lead with 2 or 3 min. left.

How is a game played 5 years before he quit a game that sealed his fate?

Wanny doomed himself and the team , when he lost his running game and still tryed to install he new O, with a QB that couldn't pass into the wind.
With no running game to set up his Poor Passing game , we lost almost to everybody.
He is a Loser as a coach, he has killed every team he has gone too.

Actually the longest MNF game was the Bucs-Colts in 2003. The Colts won after a controversial call gave them a second chance at a field goal. They call it "the greatest game that no one saw."

Also, that Jets game was a disgrace but it didn't seal Wanny's fate. Losing to the Cardinals by one point heading into the BYE week sealed his fate, that's when he "resigned".

I'll never stop talking bad about Wannstedt. This is a man that brought the winningest franchize in sports history to shambles. And as a Dolphan since 1978, it's not something I can forget very easily.

Thanks, Jen. You are a great tutor

Wanny should have lost his job after the 2002 season when we had 9 wins after (an impressive win at home against the Raiders, who were the eventual AFC representatives in the Super Bowl) Week 15 and headed on the road to finish the season. We proceeded to lose @ Minnesota, and then came the blow that turned me against Wannstedt forever, the OT loss @ New England up double digits with 5 minutes left in the 4th Quarter.

I was at that game, one of my all-time worst sporting experiences. How he was able to maintain his job after that meltdown continues to baffle me to this very day.

Yes, '02 debacle should have sealed his fate. But Spielman just would not let it happen. They were both tied to the hip; and both losers! The Minny game was against an awful defense and NE was down a bit that year from the year before. Should never have lost those games with the playoffs on the line.

No, the Jets MNF disaster in 2000 was not the beginning of the end for him but a sign of things to come. There is no excuse or reason for that to have happen that is acceptable. The ultimate point of blame is always the head coach when something like that happen.
