just getting opinions. They have a ways to catch Madison and Surtain, but can these guys be Miami's best duo ever?

They are both physically more talented than Surtain and Madison. I think ultimately Smith and Davis will considered "greater" because I'm hoping they will have the playoff successes that Surtain and Madison did not.

I think if we can keep them both they will be considered the best Duo in team history undoubtably. . . Unfortunately the chacnes of us resigning them both is slim to none IMO. You have Jake Long. . . YOu Have Kendall LAngford. . . YOu have Paul Soliai . . . Reggie Bush if he continues to impress. . . No way we can extend all of them and keep DAvis and Smith. . Thats why the window for this tandem is going to be too short to be better than MAdison and Surtain

I think Vontae will eventually be an elite CB, but I'm still worried about smith's ability to rotate his hips with his height, ideally u want a cb to be 5'9-6'1 so they can stay compact and rotate those hips, i remember lenny walls from denver was like 6'4 and it didn't work out to well, but smith showed signs of improvement towards the end of the season last year so we will see.

If they stay together I suspect they will end up as the best tandem in Fin's history.
Not gonna be easy though.

Its interesting you bring up surtain/madison cus I was remembering when those two first came in and I remember saying that they will be good together in a couple years. It will take time. Well, its been a couple years and davis is very confident and is a guy that QB's stay away from. Brett Farve said he is the best CB in the league that no one knows about.

Sean Smith is and has been the guy I worry about. But I just watched some of the game from Sat. and looked at smith on one play, albeit one play, but he stifled his guy at LOS. I also saw him peel off on another play to shockey and make the submarine tackle. So maybe Smith is getting more feisty in his tackling and play. Because last year, he was a bit of a poosy. But then i remember the article recently of him and how much he grew up this offseason and is focused and more mature.

I think these guys might be feelin it and many INt's on there way cus they know this entire defense is going to bring pressure.

very true about smith's height but how often do you see teams throw at smith?? not too often. they mostly take a chance with davis. this defense is going to be impossible to keep together for any extended period of time. maybe we can end up trading away some of these pieces for upgrades at other positions when the time comes. on the other hand, if the wideouts continue to improve, we may rid ourselves of Marshall one day just to have enough money for the D.

Only those 3 are more important. Smith and Davis will be here a long time. Paul and Long are easily gonna be back. We will more.then likely lose Bell's big contract, Allens, Careys and Maybr even Starks depending on how Odrick plays.

They could be great. I definitely think Vontae, when all is said and done, will be a pro bowl corner. Like most people, I wasn't sold on Smith early last year, what with the benching and all, but wow when he came back into the starting lineup I definitely feel that Smith was better in coverage. His closing speed was better than I originally thought, and he became more physical with wideouts/TEs in the first 5 yards, something I wasn't expecting. That NYJ game is what sold me on Sean - even though he dropped a lot of picks, he was always in the perfect position to make a play on the ball.

Entering their 3rd year, it sounds like they're more focused then ever, and hard at work. I love the talk coming from them this offseason about being the best tandem. If there is a position where you have to play with confidence, it's corner. I hope 10 years from now these guys are still playing, and they're playing for us.

... they'll say they were GREAT, BUT ... Who's going to be our QB next year!! :chuckle:

They will be considered the greatest duo in all of sports history......they will build monuments outside of stadiums....and not just in Miami....

Let's talk about it in 10 years lol. Hopefully they can surpass our old duo.

You'll say: "Davis has been an all-time great Dolphin and 'Who was Sean Smith?'"

We'll be saying the same things a lot of us do now, that they were good DB's but not great because they couldn't come down with picks.
