13th pick who you be taking?

I 'get' the idea that Miami's front office is reluctant to draft a Guard early... and I concur; you don't draft players from non-premium positions at 13.

But...

Drafting a Tackle to play Guard for a year isn't the same as drafting a Guard who can only play Guard because he lacks the feet and length to play tackle. Drafting Banks or Campbell... even Membou isn't the same as taking a Guard only tank like Booker.

Jackson is OK, actually I like him more than most here, but he might not be worth a high dollar contract next time. He is signed through 2026, but you know how it goes when a player runs out of guaranteed money... they start pushing for more (or a trade). If he throws a big year this year, he'll be pushing for 20m+ and will want to renegotiate immediately.
Paul, another guy I like, hasn't proven anything yet. Sure, we THINK he'll be good, but having a third young Tackle (who can play Guard now) wouldn't be a problem nor would it really upset the "don't draft Guards early" mantra.

So no... I do NOT agree that Miami won't go there. Yes, I'd be somewhat surprised if we took Booker... unhappily surprised, but I think the T/G players are in play. Personally, I'd still prefer one of the DEs, but one of the 3 mentioned linemen would work for me.
We need to quit trying to put square pegs in round holes by drafting tackles and hope they can become good guards. This has not worked. Like you said, totally different skillsets. Draft Booker, no adjustment period or guessing, and solidify LOG for 10+ years.

Conyers is a real Y, and he's in the same range as Hawes as a blocker. His RAC is decent, but he has excellent ball skills and is a real threat (if not a super dynamic one) as a receiver.

Ferguson is the goods, though.
You like Fergy more? I'm going to watch Conyers, Ferguson, Helm, and Taylor again. Hawes I'm already sold on if they went that route. That dude might be able to kick slide and play Tackle in a pinch lmao

Yeah, Ferguson has real upside as a receiver. I'd hope Ferguson is there at 48 or Conyers at 98.

Pure Guards available later in draft. Not at 13. Trade back and do it, sure, but not at 13 with other really good players available. There's extra benefit to sliding a Tackle inside to Guard, you just have to pick the right guy. But I'm not opposed to going with a pure OG, just not at 13.

Man would I feel so much better about Ferguson or Taylor if it was at 98 and not 48. Desperately need more picks on Day 2

I'm not a fan of Taylor.

Prior to testing Ferguson was outside the consensus Top 100, but he'll likely fall somewhere in the 60s by draft time. He's shown enough to earn a Top 40 grade for me. Smooth receiver, natural athlete, excellent coordination, balance, contact balance, and he's elite after the catch and a pretty good blocker with room to grow. Having elite burst and very good speed at his size and being an elite athlete overall makes his projection really good.

You do realize that many, if not most of the guards in the NFL played Tackle in college... right?

Part of the reason imo our drafting has had so many fails. We look for hope, guys like Tindall, projects etc. If we need a guard get a GD guard. If we need a press corner get a press cb. Our coaching isn't the best, Grier has reached way too far on many players. I don't think he'll change this late in the game but we can hope. Count on him doing a "splash" thing pre or during draft, it's the Grier way

What are you seeing with Taylor that you don’t like?

Is it lack of separation?

Not great after the catch, really limited efficiency as a receiver, not a great blocker. Basically, I need to project him forward in every area to see him as someone I want on my team. His best attributes are being young, not particularly poor in any one area, and being the son of Jason Taylor and the nephew of Zach Thomas - which honestly does count for some.

Will Campbell might be falling due to short arms.
